What's new

HQ is expanded

Coachrowsey, If you drink coffee you can join my party ANY day! Only one KK? I will admit I can eat several. I can usually drink a pot or two of coffee before noon every day! How do you take your coffee? I like milk and the pink package!

Maybe this pic puts our hq in perspective.

UGH... can we please change the subject back to the important stuff:

Will the USAirways lake in Tempe have rowing? or maybe just sculling? To me, those bouys look like primitive lane markers! Perhaps Coach Row sey can organize a crew on Lake LCC.

Also, as a further attempt to cease discussing bovine mucus, I hear that Houstonians are having a hard time getting out of the way of the light Rail on South Main Street.

Bovine Mucus? I've sworn the stuff off! But, I digress again. I hope kind sir you will forgive me but what will your crew team wear. Im sure if you give us an idea of what you are looking for Piney, Coach, Dea,and maybe Airwoman would have some thoughts. Got ideas?

That would be a nice name change, huh? US Airways Lake instead of Tempe Town Lake. 😉 The lake really does bring in a lot of people and a lot of different groups/functions. Very nice overall.

There are various boating/rowing activities. I know that there are boat rentals at the lake. I remember seeing some local TV coverage about the university practicing on the lake with the outriggers.

Check out the city website. http://www.tempe.gov/

And Mama, I guess the dress would depend on the activity, the time of day and the weather. 😉

And it's rather humorous that the topic is HQ is expanded and you wind up talking about donuts!! That's bound to make HQ "expand."

VERY NICE LAKE with (presumably) year round rowing! LCC's development better accomodate rowing on USAirways Lake, or I'll stop flying them. Old U supported rowing a tiny bit on the Potomac in pre-911 days.

Also, if you row, you can have all the donuts that you want, unless you have an OCD problem with them.

Finally, rowers are likely to race in lycra-spandex uni's, of course, or maybe a short trou or lycra leggings (in cold weather) with a tight fitting top or shell (in cold weather or cold rain).

I hope they come in XXXXL! Maybe we can create a crew team and compete with OALs, it would be a good way to raise some money maybe for the Education Foundation. It might also be a way to meet some of our fellow co workers. Because of its proximity to HQ it might attract some positive attention and good press. Just a thought.

There are rowing teams on the lake every day, and several racing events are held. Due to the 12 MPH trolley bridge being built, the lake is essentially bisected for now, but will be fully open soon.

I have a friend that is out there as a teacher (old Boston Southie) who runs classes every day at 4 am.

If anyone is interested, he is the guy.

BTW, the lake is also stocked with fish.

I worked at HQ when they filled the lake, it was quite a site, half of it has an added clay bottom, the other is pretty hard caliche rock. It was pretty surreal to watch this dry scrubby lakebed that rarely held a flowing river fill up like a tub.

Once, when they were building the newer Mill Ave bridge, there was a flood and they ran water down the Salt river. I got off of work at 5 and watched as the water ripped apart a whole section of the uncompleted bridge and sent it down. One hellatious noise it made, and then it was gone.

When visiting Tempe watering holes I have meet very young and muscular girls that could beat me ...., anyhow they where from "back east/north" universities training here. In fact this area is becoming the Tri-athletes training area of choice. We even get Canucks who do their cycling and swimming training here in the mild months!
