"In a Class of our own"

People here need to read and reread what Van posted in post #46. A BIG, BIG, BIG reason for the way things are around here starts from the TOP down. It certainly doesn't start with AL people. Sacrificing passenger perception for revenue? And that has got US where exactly? 🙄

Just to add some perspective.

During BK 1 David Seigal and the US Senior Management Teams SERIOUSLY considered changing the name of US back to Piedmont?

Why did they consider the change? Because Piedmont was still nearly 15 years after it ceased to exist had a more favorable image and reputation then PSA, AWA, AL & US.

That would have been a huge mistake, as they would have succeeded in ruining the Piedmont name, as well.

Freedom,
Admittedly, this is a lousy economy. But did you read the previous posts? The flight attendants and pilots are in a different situation than the day to day US employees.

Day to day being the operative words. Flight attendants and pilots don't work everyday at US.

Didja happen to notice that Sully has an outside gig?

Think he's the only one?

During this messy past eight years, a great deal of F/As and pilots have quietly gone about assuring their future with back-ups. And if they haven't, they've been flying their keisters off getting out of debt and paying off their mortgages. I am talking about Senior f/as here, who make up the majority of US F/As. They're within shouting distance of retirement, and they've got a lot of reasons to be bitter, and hence uncooperative.

We are also talking about 2011. Not 2009. Everyone expects this downturn/recession/ mess to have made its bloody way through by then. Throw in the fact that you have a management that routinely rewards itself with high salaries and sorry, I'm made of granite by now.

That's another thing. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't hear a lot of whining from F/As or pilots about this economy. More like, well, welcome to the party folks, the beer's almost gone. We all dealt with a depression years ago.

If US goes down, the textbooks will not blame it on the employees. They will cite the abysmal management that US has suffered for years. You can't fix attitude problems without offering something in return. As usual, this management wants everything for free. You can't get that from people you've already robbed. All you can do is beat them up.

i know alot of us airways workers who HAD second jobs .. now their down to just this .... i'm sure we have many FA's who also moonlight as real estate agents on the side .. if any of you think of going full into it , let me know how that goes ..

like i've said , everyone should just be HAPPY that they have a JOB ... for now ...

i can understand FA's frustration and pilots frustrations , but the sad fact of the matter is that both work groups waited until long after the cows had come home ... but that's all ancient history now .. i've lost all hope for our company lasting past the end of the year ... oh well ...

best of luck to you all , i hope you can overcome your anger problems to enjoy what time you have left working here .

Gordon Bethune could come in tomorrow and we would hear nothing but compliants about all the changes.

Total BS. I say we give that theory a tryout ASAP!!!/IMMEDIATELY!!/Yesterday would be even better!! Does ANYONE here disagree? 😉

You wouldn't happen to have Mr. Bethune's phone number handy???..

 Well if todays big announcement is that we will no longer charge for beverages .....That is just one tiny pimple on the face.

Associated Press: "In the ultra-competitive airline industry, it's tough being out there alone as the only large network carrier to charge some passengers for soda, juice and coffee, especially in the middle of a deep economic recession that is sharply reducing demand for air travel.

US Airways is acknowledging as much, planning to announce Monday that free beverage service will resume on March 1 on board its planes."

Yet another act of inspired genius proved it's worth....Better dish out some massive bonuses immediately.

well there's always your gig mowing Dougs yard, even if the BOD wises up and throws him and his band of cronies out you'll still have that

For those of you not paying attention on the Labor Side of things check this out. From the latest press release. NOTE: Bolding is mine.

“We are firmly committed to the a la carte model and believe it’s the
right one for our business,â€￾ said US Airways Chairman and CEO, Doug
Parker. “It is also a work in progress – US Airways was the only large
network carrier
to charge for drinks and that put us at a disadvantage.â€￾

From earlier in the thread regarding the carriers descriptio.

US Airways now officially designates itself as a predominately leisure traveling, “SMALL NETWORK CARRIERâ€￾

Now it occurs to me that one can not have it both ways. US Airways is in many ways in a class by itself and that's all I got to say about that. I'm absolutely speechless
Our manangement is the embarrassment of the industry to put it nicely.

And now all the passengers that we lost over a can of soda will return for their free can of "pop"

PB,

Good catch on the phrasing but they'll expound on the key word- "was"

Except that if we are no longer a LARGE NETWORK CARRIER, why to we have to respond by doing things the way they do? By meeting in kind the competitive stance of the large network carriers, it sounds like that's still our class.

Here's a quote from today's press release:

In a memo to employees US Airways CEO W. Douglas Parker said: "With US Airways being the only large network carrier to charge for drinks, we are at a disadvantage. This difference in our service has become a focal point that detracts from all of the outstanding improvements.â€￾

Looks like someone forgot rule #1 of CEO school, "keep your stories straight".

Agreed. I'd like to say that I was at all surprised by the double-talk...but I wasn't. BS's one thing..but not even being able to keep it all within the boundaries of the same "story" line's truly pathetic

The class of our own, and lets face it lies from Tempe, was also highlighted with the DOT on time announcement and the astrick. We are number one on-time *except in this case we don't compare ourselves with the top two, so that makes us number 1"
