please explain how this screws the guys who voted him in?
i was under the impression anyone who voted the term sheet in essentially screwed themselves out of shop work for eternity and soon after merger time or somewhere thereafter the rest of the iceberg will surface regarding the end at U of heavy maintenance.....we've been suckered by the bone they threw us...give us shops and we'll give you heavy.......(well in all honesty for a year or two, until the HP things all wrapped up.....)
glass says:we get 'em to trade off on shops outsource then after the merger we'll make all debts become payable to the IAM in one fell swoop.
the concession stand's closed.....  so's the hangar   ...

hows this smell?

Why don't you have the intestinal fortitude to go ask Mr Wise yourself?

And Mr Wise was not on the Negotiating Committee and the shop where he worked was outsourced.

Im have a serious question for 700UW.

So, lets get this straight.. Right now the U's unions are at rock bottom wages, pensions are all but gone, benefits have been stripped, work is being outsourced/off shored, and the company is laying people off weekly...

Please explain to mean why the hell anyone at U needs a union? Kick those leach bastards out and quit paying them to do nothing would you please? What are you paying them for? Can you at least tell me that?

GO ask the agents what happened to them in 1992 and you will find your answer.

why do that so you and jerry can hit us for another $50 per month ??
you don't need the money, you were paying them for dues.....

Maybe the people paying dues could keep the extra $50 a month...

Face it, union dues are just an insurance policy for your benefits/wages. There is no reason to buy car insurance (or pay union dues) if you have no car (no solid wages/benefits) to protect?

Besides, Unions will not be part of airline industry once it reaches its maturity stage. You guys should really read the Unisys Scorecard that was posted a few days ago.

If you dont jump on board the reveloution, it may just run right over you.

Sure, be a employee at will and let the company do whatever they please and you have no recourse and no say.

Ask the agents about 1992 and see why a union is needed at US Airways.

The real world?

Unions are the reason why most Worker Protection laws are in effect.

There is nothing wrong with workers uniting for collective bargaining, companies do the same.

Sounds like a great story 700UW, but its far from the truth. I'd buy that labor unions fought for the initial laws to be set into motion, but we live in a different era today than we did almost a century ago. Back then, the united states was primarily a labor based economy. Now, we are primarily a services based economy, and the old laws that prevented abuse of labor dont really apply anymore. Society is more educated and mobile, and if one employer treats their employees bad, the employees who are good can find gainful employment elsewhere. Need an example from a traditional union industry?? Ever heard about NuCor steel? They were non union, and people fought tooth and nail to get into that company. Think Im making this up?? What about all the extravagent benefits given to employees which are not governent mandated??? You think companies offer benefits and fair work rules only because of legislation?? Dude.. You need to WTFU (wake the F up). This is 2005, pullman is dead yo...

You sir are a classic example of the totally ignorant and uninformed, hood winked by people you worship that pretend to be something they will never be.

We live in a different era ONLY because of people with your twisted mind set who bend over to no end.

No, we live in a different era because of technological improvement, and innovation. You simply cannot stop progress, or wish it away like some would like. The ability to utilize cheap labor around the world is why lower wage people in the United States can afford things like computers, TV's and DVD players. If all the goods sold in walmart for example, were produced in the united states, most of the people who regularly shop there would not be able to afford most of the crap they sell. Walmarts core purpose: "To give ordinary folk the chance to buy the same things as rich people" (see the following link if you think Im lying) http://www.tecker.com/downloads/buildingvision.pdf

Todays global realities are not a function of mind sets or philosophies, they are simply another set of factors that businesses will take into consideration in the development of their business models as they strive to remain competitive

i.e. You just cant wind back the clock back homer.

No one said the clock could be reversed, but going forward and accepting the unacceptable is "one" reason the corporations of the world keep going forward with treating employees as liabilities. Corporate lobbyist helped outsourcing big time paid for by Corporate America.

You comment about a service economy may be partially true but real trade skills are not obsolete by any stretch. I know I work in an industry where over time is mandatory and they are always looking in vain to find real talent to fill the labor shortage.

The changes that have occurred world wide were bought and paid for by the powerful and very wealthy elitist and if you believe otherwise you truly are hood winked. To just sit back and say, oh well, tis life as we all get screwed while a few elitist live as God's is unacceptable to a thinking mind, and this is NOT about socialism, it’s about treating your fellow human beings in moral manner.
