Korean Air announced it will expand its a codeshare agreement with Japan Airlines,- Japan¡¦s largest airline, in which both carriers will share the code on flights between Incheon and Hiroshima / Kagoshima commencing August 1.

On August 1, 2004, the two carriers started code sharing on flights from Seoul to Komatsu, Niigata and Sapporo in Japan. From March 27, this year, the airlines began the fourth code-sharing service between Nagoya (Chubu) and Busan, Korea.

¡§The expansion of our codeshare agreement with JAL will provide more options and efficient services for travelers who would like to experience cultural and commercial exchange between the two countries,¡¨ said Mr. Jong hee Lee, Chief Operation Officer and President of Korean Air.

The two carriers expanded code-sharing arrangement covers six cities and 76 weekly flights, up from four cities and 64 weekly services.

I don't see how this is an indication of JAL soon joining Skyteam. JAL has many codeshares.
