Us Airways Makes Star Alliance Move

On the 13th, US filed an application with DOT for codesharing with Lufthansa

• between any point in the United States and any point in Germany
• between any points in the United States in conjunction with services held out by Lufthansa between Germany and the United States
• on flights between any point in the United States and any point beyond the United States.

US will have code-share access to 34 cities beyond Frankfurt and 23 cities beyond Munich.

UA will have access to over 100 US cities.

I could be wrong but I thought there was already an open skies agreement between the USA and Germany? I thought the issue with more USA--Germany flights was just slots and gates at congested airports like FRA.
