OH please, hatred thrives in the presence of god and is justified by god as well. Crusades, witch hunts, cold war, Vatican support f the Nazis during/after WWII, slaughter of the 'savage' natives in N. America, slavery, subjugation of women .. shall I go on?

People can choose to do do good or bad. Whether or not they believe in some omnipotent being is irrelevant. Not every believer is good and not every non-believer is bad. Please do us a favor and get over your self righteous self and accept the fact that when you have a bowel movement, it stinks just as bad as mine does.

There is no clean end of religion. It has dirt through out its history. If you wish to be religious, do it in the privacy of your home of religious institution. DO not bring it in a public area where I travel as well. I have no interest in seeing your beliefs anymore than you want to see mine.

For many, religion is not something you simply turn on in your "home" or "religious institution." Rather, it is a way of life that cannot be turned off in the public square. There is no creed, law, or anything else that prevents a normal citizen from living a religious life in public. I understand your sentiment, as I am annoyed by certain groups as well.

But this is a bedrock of our society; something that makes it great. The freedom to live out your religion -- or no religion at all -- in public (barring immediate, causal harm to another).

It is a personal freedom that should be cherished, despite the minor annoyances that it creates.

Perhaps I was not clear on my intent. I am not implying that someone should not be able to wear a cross or a head scarf or what ever. I am referring to state sponsored things such as X-mas trees on publicly own land, 10 commandments in US courts of law, prayer in school and the like. Religion is private and should remain as such.

If the christian right wishes to place a X-mass tree on public land that my tax dollars support, then they better not complain when I choose to put up my satanic, wica, hindu, buddist or what ever other religious items I want right beside their tree, commandments or what ever.

Some how I don't think you get it. The constitution protects all people, not just the ones you like. It protects my rights as well as yours. If you don't like it, feel free to repeal the constitution and install an authoritarian theocracy. Let me know how that works for you.
