I came across a story in the National Post about Jetsgo's MD-83s not having the capability to carry all of the needed people/baggage/fuel for the Ontario - B.C. trip, so they have been using Air Canada and Westjet to carry excess baggage for them. When there was no room on the other carriers, they would simply bump passengers bags onto another flight of thiers later in the day. Interesting considering all of the problems I have heard in the past about lost baggage and Jetsgo. Now WJ and AC have decided to stop offering assistance to Jetsgo, so it should be interesting to see what JG's next move will be. Apparently they are the only airline to ever attempt to use the MD-83 on transcontinental routes. Something to keep in mind next time you fly Jetsgo....pack light!

I've flown commercially for over 25 years. Only twice were my bags ever misplaced, on two recent Jets Go flights. Nuff said.

That's what you get for reading a RAG like the National Post--I have never read as much crap as those guys like to write.

As for Jetsgo--they can fly YYZ-YVR with bags and do it every day. My bet is percentage wise they 'lose' the same number of bags as every one else and less than Air Canada.

Jeez, Don't mean to be snotty nor disagreeable, Trader. But ya didn't state just how many bags they could get from YYZ to YVR, with a full load of pax.

And knowing Michel LeBlanc's history, I do believe he's smart enough not to pay Air Canada nor WestJet to carry bags, if he didn't have to. <_<

I talked to our TAC Manager yesterday, and he had informed me that WestJet does indeed carry bags for JetsGo. Tthough he didn't state how frequent, but he did state, and I quote, " It's not uncommon to see us loading and unloading bags, from our aircraft, with JetsGo tags on them."

You may feel free to differ, however. 🙂

No worries 😀

I am sure it does happen occasionally. In fact, it is normal in the aviation biz to use other carriers or cargo carriers at times to fly bags. Christmas would be a good example where MANY airlines use cargo carriers to carry excess bags. In a lot of cases the aircraft BULKS out before weight becomes an issue.

I know at the last carrier I flew for (an AC connector) we bumped bags regularly due to weight or bulk and these AC passangers had to weight days in some cases to get their belongings.

In any case the MD and Jetsgo have no more difficulty than any other carrier with bags.

I just can't stand the 'slant' the Nat Post likes to add to any non WestJet carrier.

Almost forgot

160000 lbs max TO
avg 84000 OEW
160 pax max

SO if you have a worst case scenario of 160 MALES at 182lbs
=29120

Fuel to YVR 40000lbs in winds

All up before bags =153120lbs

Leaves 6880 lbs for bags
At 25 lbs industry avg for bags = 275 bags (not inc carry on)

Thats an absolute worst case as well.

Not a 757 but still reasonable.

Perhaps this only happens when there are no suitable alternates for YVR within reasonable distance.

I wrote the following response to the same subject on another forum:

I have ridden on Jetsgo a couple of times. Very nice flight on clean airplanes. Good service and no baggage delays. The most impressive thing was the quiet cabin. MUCH quieter than a 737-200 or most other similar sized aircraft including the A320 and its derivitives.

I have suffered a couple of lost and delayed bags on Air Canada and Westjet in the past. It is just a fact of life when you travel on airlines as much as I do. It doesn't bother me much actually.

This story is just the opinion of an uniformed media idiot that didn't bother looking into what is common when it comes to baggage etc.

One other factor though is that occasionally loads are limited when its hot and the flight duration is close to the maximum endurance of the airplane. Some airlines just leave some pax behind. Others still like Air Canada don't have to worry because they carry far fewer passengers. Jetsgo choses to load up with pax and take a hit occasionally with baggage routing.

Who has the right answer? Well....Air Canada is about 12 billion in the hole...

The winter male weight is 188 lbs with carryon. 🙂

Oh Goodie!!! I can lose 50 lbs by flying with Jetsgo 😛 😛 Who needs a diet 😀

Hey Guys and Gals
Is it true that these guys are picking up some regional aircraft? If so which market area are they going to try and work on?
DW

They have bought 18 F-100's from American Airlines. To be used on their shorter haul and thinner pax routes I would imagine.

..my guess..increased fequency to some current destinations plus Chicago, Boston and some other US biz centres and some new US southern destinations. It's all good
