Doogie has got to be kidding...I almost puked when I opened the magazine this morning and read this:

http://usairwaysmag.com/welcomeAboard.asp

Why?

Well, first, they could have named 2 FA's of the year in light of the merger...it would have been the right thing to do this year to recognize both sides of the equation in this merger.

Second, she handed out cards with Travis Christ's contact info? Puleeeeze. He still hasn't responded to my letters sent in November, December and January!

Although I am sure Jan is very deserving, and this is not meant to take away from her achievement, Doogie must be drinking too much of his peers' Kool-Aid. The article didn't mention whether Christ actually showed up for the meeting called by Jan or if she snagged the cards off of his desk and ran....Is Uncle Dougie's head that buried in the Tempe sand??????

Well, first of all, once we are merged there will only be 1 FA out of the whole group. Jan was actually chosen at the end of the year. Wait until you meet her, she is one of the most fantastic people I know. She has delt with many personal struggles and yet always smiles.

Jan is simply amazing.

Um, do you think that Doug actually writes this? Yes the article is PR, but I am glad you are able to separate Jan from that. She really is an outstanding person.

As for Doug, he is a extreemly smart and I am personally glad that he is running the company. Don't hold Doug accountable because Travis hasn't returned your email. How long ago was it? Did you follow up with another one?

Was it just complaining or actually making suggestions?

Just some thoughts.

I agree....also, people who complain don't always realize they are complaining....it has become second nature to them.

Wasn't that the excuse that the CEO of Enron used? "I'm in charge of all of it, but I didn't know what was going on, so you can't hold me responsible."

Doug is responsible for his officers and the company, in general; it's his "fiduciary" duty.

Responding to email may not be part of fiduciary duty, but I do hold Doug responsible for how his upper level management behaves.

Maybe Travis is too busy to answer every email, personally, but he should have an assistant sending out a response (even if it's canned) that thanks the writer for their concern or interest and that while you may not get a response, every matter is considered -- or something like that. There's nothing worse than to leave someone hanging -- over and over -- with no communication in return whatsoever. It makes it seem like he doesn't care.

Next time, if you should write again, copy Doug on it and refer to all your previous correspondance, too. That should get someone's attention.

so, what are you saying? without knowing me you have concluded that i have unjustified complaints that should be ignored?

i thought it was sad that Doogie thinks that what this woman did actually helped customers because I don't know of anyone who received a response from Travis Christ. I think Jan should be applauded for her efforts, but I don't think that Travis actually ever did anything.

that is exactly right. what about when you are PROMISED return phone calls from executive assistants and then they don't call back

Doug once said that Al Crellin was a great airline executive.

Foolish eh.....

I guess that would be the same as a FA who forgets to bring someone their pillow.

Lets get real. Instead of blasting Doug that Travis did not return an email, just email him again.

In the big picture, things happen.

why are you defending Doogie so much--he is ultimately responsible for the people who report to him.

Oh, and thanks for giving me a Galley Humor topic.

I wonder if this post would still be here if a F/A from the "East" side was honored as F/A of the year? I'm kind of thinking...NOT!

Actually, if he/she handed out Travis Christ's card it would be because as I stated above, HE DOESN'T CARE.

I am not taking anything away from Jan. She is probably very deserving...my only comment is that it would have been nice that since there were two distinct sides to this company at the end of last year, someone from the East side should have been recognized as well...not in the future, but it would have been a nice gesture.

How about this, was ANYONE from the East considered?????????

Why do I defend Doug? Because he took his job the day before 9/11 and has turned this airline around.

Doug shouldn't have to look over everyone's shoulder to see if they returned each and every email.

Again, Travis is the one who did not return your email.

If you are the B flight attendant and you forgot to bring a pillow to a passenger, does the passenger have a right to "beat up" the A flight attendant. No.

Get over it. Did you ever follow up on the email? If not, it must not have been that important, so shut up about it!

Did you give a suggestion or and idea on how to fix the problem you found? If not, get over it.
