Appeals court deals blow to Drakes Bay Oyster Co.

The federal government acted within its authority in refusing to renew an oyster farm's lease at Point Reyes National Seashore, site of a proposed marine wilderness, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday.
Drakes Bay runs California's only oyster cannery, and plants and harvests at least one-third of the state's oysters. The company has attracted support from farming groups, chef Alice Waters, and Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., sponsor of 2009 legislation that authorized the Interior Department to extend the offshore lease for 10 years.
A central issue in the case was an environmental study commissioned by Salazar that found possible harm to birds, harbor seals and marine habitat from continued operation of the oyster farm.

What a F###ing gaggle of idiots.

Does any of these clowns know where this business is located?

A$$Clown

"Protecting Drakes Estero, America's only West Coast marine wilderness park, will restore health – and hope – for the ocean and for the interests of all of the people of this country," oceanographer Sylvia Earle said.

That's why environmentalists a sooooooooooooooo... ignorant.
Return it back to nature.
OK 1 million years ago this bay did not exist.
Return it back to nature is a crock.
:p

I know. It's not like humans have ever fished a species to extinction or near extinction. Not like we have ever adversely affected a ecosystem by eliminating a predator or prey. How about instead of taking an extreme view of 'returning it to nature as it was 1 million years ago we try to be better care takers of our environment and not over fish or adversely affect our environment?

It is not "their" farm.

It is our farm

We decided not to renew the lease

Property rights don't matter anymore?

Or only when it suits your rhetoric?

Are you expert enough in marine biology and oceanic ecology to make the judgment that "it worked quite well until now"?

Apparently, you think your an expert in marine biology ! Or do you just believe everything you hear ?
Some people actually "read" scholarly research from multiple sources and then come to an educated conclusion.

Based on your post, it sounds like you just beleive what you "hear" on your talk radio (or those voices in your head)?
