More potential bad news for AMTs.

Take a look at where TBIT is, and where the new midfield concourse is planned to go...

Apparently, AA's lease on the hangars is up in 2010. Odds would appear that AA has to find other space at LAX in order to make room for the expansion...

OK by me since the TBIT blocks the view of the neon letters and eagle from T-4. Only time I see them is when at TBIT or on an airplane. Hope they can find alternate space.

If that construction goes anything like the Miami construction those of us here now will be retired by the time they finish it

I remember hearing something about this earlier this year. If it happens AA will not be the only ones looking for hangar space. You also have to wonder once they start tearing up the west side of the field where AA and all the other airlines that use that part of the field are going to park overnights.

Looks like that ramp side employee parking will be toast.

These plans have been in the works since 2000. LAWA wants to get rid of all airline hangars and replace it with a LAWA hangar and rent the spots out on a daily basis. My guess is that LAX will become one giant class 2 station in the near future.

That's about what it sounds like. Of course with an project run by a city it will probably be behind schedule by four or five years and over budget.

perhaps some centerport corporate hack will be in charge of the project...And like MIA, will be given a huge bonus when the project is way late and over budget...

Actually, it looks the only casualty will be the old low bay hangar. Looks like the superbay hangar ( and the TWA hangar) willl be spared.

Take another look. Those hangars are gone. LAWA has said they want no maintenance on the field in anything but their own hangar.

The word we got, and you LAX guys could verify or shoot it down, is that earthqaukes took their toll on the TWA, American, Continental and old Flyin Tiger hangars.
Cracks developed in the structures and LAX Structural Inspection put a time limit on them before they're torn down..

Anyone else hear of this?

That's a new one on me. The only thing I know is the lease on the superbay and the TWA hangar is up in 2010. LAWA has been wanting to get rid of all those hangars on World Way West and this is the excuse to do just that.

<_< ------Joe's right on this one! From what I've heard from the exLAXer's here at MCI, is the City (L.A.) has been talking about this for years!

Mci Transplant,

Good luck on your retirement, you are going to enjoy it. Please do me one favor before leaving. Make sure that all of you TWA guys retiring does not take AAFSC's retirement money with you. We would not want that poor little guy to have to worry about that.
