Local news reports passengers stuck on plane in PHL

so I would be surprised why they could not clear a path for the AC to get back.
I suspect that it's not a case of shoveling the sleet, but having a route back to the gate that's free of other airplanes in the same situation and an empty gate to return to.

About noon, US requested that the FAA (ATC) not allow any planes bound for PHL to take off because of ramp congestion. So far, it doesn't look like the self-imposed ground stop has been lifted.

According to Flight Aware,2 commercial flights landed since 3pm, LH from FRA and US fron LGW. Also shows HP 433 landing from LAS and taking off to BWI, I believe that was a divert. 80 degrees 48 hours ago and now dealing with this sh!t!

i was working flt 1061 phl-fll. 757-200. we were stuck on the tarmac for 5 1/2 hrs. the crew did an amazing job. we showed 3 movies gave out water every 30 minutes and handed out snacks. it was all we could do to keep the calm. we also updated them on the situation as we got new info. at the end though it was getting a little heated. we finally got a gate . gate A8. as the pax were deplaning they thanked us and even hugged us for the great service. it was a tiring ordeal for both the crew and pax. i think we made the news as well. people were recording the drama on thier camcorders and cellphones. one pax called the news to tell them about what was going on. he did tell them that the crew was doing an outstanding job in keeping order and maintaining calm and giving updates.

Thanks for doing a great job, especially in that situation. Must have been tough. Good job.

Did you get on TV?

USAirways: "This storm took everybody by surprise. We had not put into place a program of vast cancellations because the weather forecast originally called for rain and snow, and then it quickly turned into ice pellets, which make taking off impossible."

Well the news I watched had warned us about the mess at least 48 hours in advance. What is this crap about took us by suprise? Oh this place get more bizare by the day!

That sounds great. Keep the passengers informed and be honest about it will keep everybody happy, plus keeping them entertained also helped. If I ever happen to get stuck on a plane in conditions like today, I be happy that you would be on the crew.

Right from CAT CREW Flight 1877:
Sched: PHL-PBI 1000 1255 734
Actual😛HL-PHL
1030 1556 734 AIRCRAFT # 0424

Needless to say 6.5 hours is excessive.

10:30 to 1600 is 5.5 hrs, not 6.5...

i also have to say that andrew perkins was the A f/a on this trip. what an outstanding f/a he is. i will fly with him any day!!!

OK, but how can The other airlines RJ's people walk off and into the terminal? Plus PHL has air stairs in working, some charters use them. These people on the plane were already screened prior to boarding already. These people were not coming in from an airport that had no kind of security check. I am not sure they even do that anymore. But I understand that its a nightmare when weather like this occurs. We need Dean Martin and George Kennedy to start piloting the flights.

All the deplaning by RJ's is all preapproved and the pax are corralled and must go a certain direction. That is a lot different than just "dumping" the pax onto the tarmac.

I had never realized that I have been 'corralled' several hundred times in my life until now!
