Man killed in airport shootout

As I left work this morning at the end of my shift, I heard
sirens roaring,,thinking nothing of it, we hear them daily, thinking it was a medical emergency-when I saw the news, damn near fell over.
My collegues and I have always said, since that is an unsecured area some one could play shooot em up at the ticket counters..

well today unfortunately was that day.
The felon purchased his one way ticket, but it was not to Chicago.

Stephen Zabrosky, 63, of Ellington, Conn., who flew from Hartford to Cleveland to visit relatives in his old hometown, said he feels safe traveling by air once he passes through airport security.

But Thursday's shooting highlighted his fears about areas before the check points, he said.

"There's not enough security from here to the ticket counter," Zabrosky said, motioning to the busy curbside outside the terminal. "They should have the security here before they get to the ticket counter."

Lord help us, here we go again with the sheeple idiocy. 🙄

McGrath said security at the airport 's sidewalk and ticketing areas is sufficient. "I believe our security at the airport is very good," he said.

A sensible comment from those in charge for once.

I hope Congress is busy doing something else or we may have an "anything for safety" pre-TSA TSA checkpoint.

Tell me about it. I cringed as soon as I read the sheeple comment about security prior to the checkpoint. I'm sure that guy would only feel safe if there were armed guards at every corner. Jeez. A felon went nuts, and police took care of it. Nothing to do really with 'airport' security .. the guy could have done the same stupid thing anywhere.

Hope the injured cop has a speedy recovery and it was resolved quickly with no bystander injuries.

the guy was obviously zipping on one thing or another...toxicology report will be forthcoming.....rational people do not go this route.

Didnt something like that happen to EL AL in LAX a few yrs back? I believe that security should start before the tocket counter to prevent stuff like that. May the Lord's Prayers Heal the wounded quickly

Maybe we should also place armed guards prior to one entering Rite-Aid or Kaufmann's.

There is more to this story than you're reading on CNN.

The dead guy had a long criminal history and already served jail time in a couple states.

The cop that was shot was not wearing his mandatory body armor (probably because the vest would not fit him to put it bluntly) and the dead guy used a gun he had swiped from the second cop to arrive on the scene. The third cop fired and killed the criminal.

I find disturbing the fact that this guy was able to purchase a one-way ticket from UA only after the DL people had refused his request.

Yes there was a shooting at EL AL's ticket counter in LAX.

thank you 700.

marco, I only mentioned that I believe that there should be some kind of security prior to the ticket counter because of incidents like this and the EL AL one a few yrs back.

This morning the wounded officer had surgery to remove a blood clot immediatley caused from the shooting.
He's doing well, still in critical condition.

Officers gun was in an easy holster, so this moron grabbed it and started shooting at the officer.

BTW, another officer today was not wearing his,and he COULD fit into it. So weight HAS nothing to do with it.

My collegue saw the dying man bleeding all over the place.

This happened in a matter of seconds..

WN UA and US t/c agents were moved the checkout/break rooms until this ended..

I find disturbing the fact that this guy was able to purchase a one-way ticket from UA only after the DL people had refused his request.

"Callaway tried unsuccessfully to buy a ticket at the Delta Air Lines counter. After arguing with a Delta employee, he went to the adjacent United Airlines ticket counter and purchased a ticket to Chicago, then got into the confrontation with the officers, Flask said."

It doesnt state why he wasnt able to purchase a ticket on DL, but was able to on UA. Was DL full or did he do something to the agents there to make them not sell him a ticket? I've had people go berserk at our counter and cause a scene only to go to another counter and be as nice as can be and if you hadnt seen how they acted, would think nothing of selling them a ticket. I've even gone so far when something like this happens to try to advise the other counters about how the person has been acting, but maybe that wasnt the case here.

And as far as security BEFORE security, bad idea. It also said he had an altercation IN THE PARKING GARAGE before getting into it inside the airport. Where are you going to draw the line here? Empty your car out and strip it down as a pre pre pre security screening. Overreaction IMO.

Yes, this did start prior to him entering the port.
Left his car parked out front and WANTED someone to park it for him.
Okay, leave it there, call the towing company and see ya!

Moron..
On my walk today, did not see a single Officer on the conourse, mayhaps they were in the front at the counters..

I'll scope it out tomorrow...

Police / Security was present but not effective. More of the same won't help us.
