What's new

Public your getting what you pay for

What About on Sundays and When Pax's Are Done With Their HUGE Pile of Newspapers and Where DO They End Up? You Guessed It....THE FLOOR!! Come On People!!

The one that really gets me is when you see the seatback pocket full of newspapers or the floor covered with them and you ask the passenger if he/she is done with the papers. The answer invariably (in a somewhat nasty tone) is "Yes, I'm going to take the paper with me." (As if I'm trying to get a free newspaper for my personal use.)

Once the passengers have deplaned and we start cleaning the cabin, guess what I usually find at that passenger's row. The friggin newspapers that they were "going to take with them."

“You put your hand in the seatback pocket and there’s an open McDonald’s ketchup container in there,†said Joe Brancatelli, a frequent flier who runs an advice Web site for business travelers. Tidiness has declined in recent years, he said. “The problem is they’ve made so many cuts.â€

When cleaning is outsourced, for instance, “it’s another part of the airline business that goes to the lowest bidder,†he said.

And when outside food was invited aboard, routines for taking care of trash went awry. “A lot of inconvenient garbage,†Mr. Brancatelli said. “The airlines can’t control it. They can’t plan for it.â€
B.S. The F/As walk thru the cabin asking for all garbage a couple of times inflight. The customers are lazy and dont care if they leave THEIR garbage in the seatback pocket as long as its clean the next time THEY take flight. And before anyone says I'm blaming the customers on this and the airline should clean the plane, I agree. There should be a more thorough cleaning on the planes more often especially with the amount of people traveling, but some help from those leaving the normal trash behind would be a big step in the right direction during the rest of the time.

I know a utility person (laid off bk2) who got stuck with a hypodermic needle while cleaning out a seat pocket.
He wished it was a ketchup packet.

I believe RyanAir in Ireland removed all the seatback pouches to cut cleaning costs.

Just like cigarette lighters in your car, these seatback pouches are a remnant of the past.

Doesn't excuse people from being tidy and respectful.

But Then Where Would We Put The Award Winning USAirways Magazine and The Sky Mall (does anyone Really buy anything from it) Magazine!!

OMG please don't get rid of the seatback pocket. That would mean the Usairways advertisement (magazine) would have no place on the aircraft. The f/a's would have to do MORE advertising than we already do. Honestly besides the thought of where to put those useless magazines getting rid of the seatback pocket is actually a GREAT idea. Ryanair does put the cards on the back of the traytable. How about making the seatback pockets mesh or a stretchy cord material like in some cars? I'm sure my little "friend" on here will chime in soon and ask if this is ALL you have to worry about in life. The question for everything that bothers anyone. 🙄

At least something new is being discussed on here, instead of the endless debates about FCFS vs. DOH and merger vs. acquisition

Didn't the Fokkers have mesh pockets?

Uh, paging Passenger Smith from arriving Philadelphia flight, please return to the gate to claim an item left behind..... 😛h34r:
That'll teach em!

This was suggested in another topic awhile back. I've seen it on a European airline (not sure which one. Transavia?). Seems like it not only reduce "surprise" when reaching into the seat pockets but make it easier to clean as well. Might also make for fewer mobile phones and such left behind.

Correct. Along with window shades and seat recline mechanisms. They've looked into eliminating tray tables as well. Not only saves cleaning costs, but maintenance costs, and, probably most importantly given the price of fuel--weight!

Regarding comments to passengers "is this what you do at home?" ... they might say no, but this is exactly what trashy people do at home. They put their feet on the furniture, leave crumbs on the floor, etc. They're called "trailer trash", though not limited to people who actually live in trailers. I have personal experience with these types of people a.k.a. in-laws.

Think of the trailer similarities.
It's made of aluminum.
It's long and narrow.
It has indoor/outdoor carpeting.
The bathrooms are small glorified outhouses.
It sits on wheels.

Yet they get on and STILL pull the ashtray out trying to open the lav door.
