Mark Foley. Cover up?

But how many of these republican stooges were successfully impeached?

I did not have sex with that women...er,Ms lewinsky

Not sure where you are going with this but I always felt that when something like this occurs, law enforcement and if warranted, the judicial system should be making the decisions regarding punishment. Where the US Congress gets off over seeing them selves is reprehensible. Where ever a minor is involved, it is a criminal offense and as such it should be treated that way. He should be in jail awaiting trial or at the least out on bond. In cases involving consenting adults, it is their business and unless some sort of criminal complaint is filed, it is no ones business but those involved. If they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar, the voting booth will take care of that. When criminal complaints are filed, they should be heard in a court room, not the congressional floor. I could not care less what 500+ reps and 100 senators feel should be done.

We the people have let our employees get away with far too much lately. Until We the people decided to take our government back from big business, the religious fanatics, the parties and who knows who else, we get what we deserve. The political system has been manipulated by them to serve their deviant needs for far too long. I wish I would live long enough to see the day that they have to pay the piper but I seriously doubt the people in this country have the where with all too actually stand up and be heard. Far to many are easily manipulated to believe what ever is spoon fed to them with out using the cells between their ears that mother nature gave them.

In the Huffington Post:

That too me is the biggest question. According to the CNN article, leaders in the republican party were aware of possible inappropriate behavior as early as 2005 and yet by all accounts they did nothing to stop him or to even see what was going on. Why they are getting a pass on this is beyond me. Law enforcement should be involved and people should be facing criminal charges. It's obscene.

theres already someone else disputing the claims of a coverup...he can send all the e-mails he wants but until he sets up an actual meeting he hasn't crossed any legal lines. Is he screwed up? no doubt....I bet this crap goes on on both sides of the aisle too.....it'll be under the surface now no doubt....
coverups happen on both sides of the aisle too....my point was BC.....coverups are an American way... 😉

so you going to claim that no dems ever tried to get cute looking little pages between the sheets?
Bet Barney tried or has....

and I bet a boat load a whole bunch those pages are gay too.....

Entrapment by the Dem's?

So are you saying that the dems are a pillar of virtue and have a secured parking space in heaven, or are you saying it's neither the GOP or Dems but the unsaved depraved ungenerated individuals? Which is: (EVERYONE WHO WAS BORN IN THE NATURAL) Are you perfect? Can your feet be held to the fire without pain? Or are you finger pointing trying to divert your own (NATURAL) depravity from yourself and everyone else? Like the fox guarding the chicken pen your reasoning is as sound.
Yes, that's it exactly. Republicans are depraved hypocrites. Say it with me: "Republican Culture of Corruption".

Remember, the Big Dog warned us what lay down the road of scandal-mongering, but the oh-so-righteous insisted on their pound of flesh. Here we are a decade later and the shoe is most firmly on the other foot. And now come the pathetic mewlings of the gleeful stone-throwers (you know who you are) who would preach to us about not throwing the first stone... 😀 I guess it's O.K.I.Y.A.R. (OK if you are Republican). Hmmmm, is that the rank stench of mendacity and hypocrisy oozing from the rightward direction of the holier-than-thou crowd?

Don't mention all the so called immoral things that happened in the "other" party.

Lets not play favorites here, be like Fox, balanced.

Trouble is, there is no balance in this world, it's slanted and depending on your allegiance it's tilt varies.

Wasted topic
On the contrary, a beautiful topic, and one that I would have posted myself if you had not done so first, Garfield 1996.
Those Friday-afternoon bad-news dumps, where they release bad news at 5-6 pm on Friday afternoon when everyone has usually left town, hoping that it will be old news by Monday, aren't working anymore, certainly not for something as serious as this.

The entire Republican "leadership" in the house of reps. knew about this innapropriate behavior and covered it up and condoned it, all for political advantage.

But hey, let's not throw stones, because it's IOKYAR. (It's OK if You are Republican) 😉

A long time ago, on the Tonight show, during the time of another abuse scandle: a question was posed on why the congressional records were so dog-eared. The answer was because the congressmen liked their pages bent over. Obviously, things are truer than believed and haven't changed in decades. They should not be immune to the court system.

Unfortunately there is probably a list out there with Dems who have done the same things. It does seem that power corrupts.

Be that as it may, I am surprised that not much of a stink has been made of the fact that his behavior if not known, was at least suspect but senior members of the republican party. The fact that they did little to nothing to investigate Fowler and let his behavior continue is in my mine criminal.

I know one can play ‘what if’ games all day long, but considering that the media is always accused of being ‘liberal’ I cannot help but wonder why this is not being blared form roof tops. Clinton get s blow job in the oval office and the world come to stand still, Fowler is a sexual predator to a minor and life goes on as usual. This is sex, politics and possible conspiracy. That makes great head lines or so I thought.
Well, I don't think this is going away anytime soon. The FBI is investigating, and there are rumblings that this thing could go much deeper than just Foley. Do you really think the republican house "leadership" would be burning the midnight oil in full scandal-control mode in Washington, on the weekend, during election season, if this wasn't huge, and about much more than a single congressman? 😛

Entrapment by the Dem's?

Definitely not. As your link indicated there were at least 2 Dems and 2 rep who were involved with minors. I do not know the details but from what I can tell what sets this case apart from all the rest is that people aside from the accused were aware of the 'indiscretions' that were taking place.

What always fascinates me about politicians is that they think they can get away with crap like this. A law professor once told the class I was in that if you are ever going to commit a crime, make sure no one else knows about it and don’t tell anyone. The second someone else finds out about it, your are screwed. The reps shot them selves in the foot by not cutting him loose and turning him into the cops when they first found out about it. They can bail all they want, this ship is going straight to the bottom.

It's the rank hypocrisy and the kind of ruthless cynicism and scorched-earth partisanship that would put kids at risk to gain even a slight political advantage that is so apalling to so very many people, and the gross dereliction of duty by the so-called repub "leadership" proves that these clowns can't be trusted with anything. That is what sets this apart. This filth reaches the very top of the repub party. Time for a re-boot, conservatives? (I've heard and read more than a few conservatives calling for just that)?

You guys are pathetic. The Republican speaker of the house knew that this guy was a child predator who was targeting under-aged boys and he did nothing about it. At least when a Democrat was involved in a sexual liaison with an underling it was a consensual encounter with an adult.

First of all let me say ANY person, male or female, white or black, Republican or Democrat that commits the acts that Foley committed is a sick and disgusting individual. They need to be locked away forever.
Now, lets discuss what the Speaker knew and what he didn't. He's on record as saying the only thing he knew was there was a report from colleagues that Foley had sent emails to a page that were "overly friendly". Link Here
The Speaker didn't know the extent of the emails nor did he know anything about the instant messages. In fact, these instant messages were 3 years old. Now where were these im's for the past 3 years? Who had this information during that time? What kind of person would put kids at risk with this kind of information in their possession knowing a sicko like Foley is out there preying on kids is unthinkable. The timing of this is peculiar to say the least with it coming just days after the deadline to replace Foley on the ballot with a new candidate and Moveon.org had the the entire story and email details on their website moments after ABC broke the story.
What has to be done is a full investigation and it's great that the FBI has launched one. Hopefully they'll get to the bottom of it and come out with who knew what and when they knew it. If Hastert lied then he needs to go. If someone else has sat on this information then it needs to be brought to light and they need to answer the question as to why it took them so long to report this gross behavior. No matter who is responsible they need to answer som hard questions. The question is will they be given a pass or will their feet be held to the fire. Time will tell but you have to admit the timing sure raises some serious suspicions.

Who are these people that you've heard and read saying that?

This whole thing is a political. You would think the dems would be celebrating by patting Mr. F on the back for coming out. Here is a good web site showing the Dems mind set, and morals.

Bet he could use some ice water about now

you idiot.....this has nothing to do with governance or gaining political advantage. Its all about personal perversions and how the Lib/Dem's have taken our country down this sorid road..In the end  you as a staunch democrap will find its both sides including your lovers the democraps who are guilty.I bet on both sides of the aisle people are doo doo-ing their respective pants as we digress..........all due to the liberal "if it feels good do it " mentality.

liberal law and liberal mentality are guilty here my friend.....

Some Democrats are attempting to make this "a Republican scandal," and they shouldn't; Democrats have contributed more than their share of characters in the tawdry history of congressional sexual scandals. Sexual predators come in all shapes, sizes and partisan hues, in institutions within and without government. When predators are found they must be dealt with, forcefully and swiftly. This time the offender is a Republican, and Republicans can't simply "get ahead" of the scandal by competing to make the most noise in calls for a full investigation. The time for that is long past.

funny...I just read the sorid personal exchange between the page and Foley.....may be lightly sexually slanted but I didn't see or read anything about meeting specifics as to when/where that would warrant arrest...matter of fact, looked like first amendment issues to me.....remember,we do have a constitution, except if you're a Republican...

My understanding is that the most graphic of the exchanges are not being released.

As for the dems being responsible for paving the road to hell with 'if it feels good , do it". That's just a load of crap. No one advocates taking advantage of minors and to imply that only weakens you argument. What two (or more) adults do is entirely up to them. When minors get involved and others know about the transgressions but do nothing, that crosses a very distinct line. The repubs did this one all on their own. They sat on the info with out investigating what was going on. Why they did so only they know. Regardless of the explanation, it was foolish and showed an incredible lack of compassion for those affected and an utter lack of a moral compass.

I can only hope this cost most of those bastards their career and possibly their freedom.
