UVN,

You are correct. The IAM is doing a rush job to shove this down the throats of their members. Its almost as if they expect a bonus or something!!!

E-Trons,

I am not saying is right, I am saying that if you look at other positions outside of aviation, that are safety sensitive or where lives hang in the balance (such as the nursing example I gave), the salary is competitive.

Also, your Western Auto comparison is a bit off. Auto mechanics are generally paid based on production. You get paid dependent on how much work you do. If there is not enough work one day, you may only get two or three hours paid, but you'll be there for eight. You may get ten hours pay one day if you are good and can crank out a lot of production. On the other hand, mechanics at U will get paid whether they put out eight hours of production in a day or not.

IAM Members to Vote at US Airways
The cavernous U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Alexandria, VA was filled to
capacity as Judge Stephen Mitchell delivered the order granting US Airways’1113
© motion to terminate labor agreements covering nearly 8,500 IAM members at
the nation’s seventh largest airline. The order covers Fleet Service workers in
District 141 and Mechanic & Related and Maintenance Training Specialists in
District 142.
The judge directed both US Airways and the IAM to maintain status quo,
however, and his order will not take effect until voting by IAM members is
completed on a pair of “final offersâ€￾ and one tentative agreement reached with the
company. The Fleet Service Negotiating Committee received a final offer from the
company on Jan. 5 and the Mechanic & Related committee received their final offer
on Jan. 6.
Each District also reached agreements to modify, but not eliminate, retiree
insurance benefits.
Full details of the company’s offers and an explanation will be provided to
members prior to voting. Ratification and strike authorization voting is expected to
be completed by Jan. 21.
If the offers are approved, they will become the new collective bargaining
agreements. If the offers are rejected, the collective bargaining agreements would
be dissolved and the company’s “final offerâ€￾ would be withdrawn. The company
would then impose whatever pay, benefits and working conditions it chooses.

When is the last time you saw a nurse working outside in the middle of the night in the middle of the winter?

On the other hand, mechanics at U will get paid whether they put out eight hours of production in a day or not.

Well that is up to management isnt it?
Besides do you really want there to be an economic incentive to take shortcuts on the plane that you will be flying?

Bob Owens,
I suggest you stick with preparing yourself for AA's tribulations instead of trying to rile up US's fine mechanics. You're gonna love bankruptcy, we'll see you soon.

This is your third round of concessions. And USAIR is no better off today than it was two years ago when someone who went under Chipmunn made all these promises that "Dave" was different and that there would not be more concessions. Back when someone who sounds like you used to used to post under Chipmunn and I thought is was an alias, short for chipmunk. When he said that those of us who said that "USAIR would keep coming back for concessions as long as you show that you were willing to give" were just trying to kill off USAIR. "Oh no, this is a one shot deal", then came round two, then round three, why wouldnt there be a round four? Or round five, six, seven ?

Well were we right? Two years and things are still getting worse, not better. Now the employees are being asked to vote in concessions until 2011!!!!! So even if USAIR recover the employees never will.

Well unlike you who would say one thing to one group then something else to another you can rest assured that when the concession train comes rolling back to us I will do all I can to derail it.
