What Medical & Dental Benefits do HP employees currently have? If you have more than one option, who are the options with? US has Blue Cross and that's it.

Here in PHX< we have United Health Care. I think most other cities also have that, but I do know some markets have a different one (El Paso sticks out as one that has a different provider).

Dental is provided by metlife; vision by Spectera. The vision plan is AWFUL. We get a discount on eye exams, but only like $50 for frame allowance. I dont' know all the details off the top of my head, but I do know it sucks.

At least you have vision. US Airways quit covering vision 2 years ago.

Really? That's amazing . .I thought all companies still had some sort of vision protection.

Pilots at USairways are provided with smoke goggles. That's about it.

I'm glad to hear the United Health might be back in the picture. We had them here for a long time and they are far and away better than BC/BS. And they have better doctors in their network, too.

United Health Care is a pain. I was hoping BC/BS would be better. We had Mayo for a couple of years, they were great. At least my doctor has been on all of the different plans we have had over the last 10 years.

I did get a pair of glasses using Spectera and only had to pay a $10 copay, just make sure you use an in-network provider. I used Eyeglass World.

UHC works really well if you live in the PHX area. I live in the LAX area and have had nothing but trouble with them. I use UHC providers and while my handbook says the coverage is 100% after a $10. copay, I am constantly getting a bill for the portion that UHC doesn't allow. Go figure. I have to fight and fight to get anywhere with them, and still wind up paying a small portion. These are all procedures in which I have received a referral from my UHC physician. I called the HP benefits rep person and she is the one who told me the employees who live outside the PHX area seem to have a lot of trouble getting their claims completely paid. She did not offer any help in getting the claims paid and didn't have much empathy either.

This happens in PHX also. They never want to pay for anything.

How much do you pay per month for health benefits? We pay like 40 a paycheck..comes out to 80 a month. We also have MetLife. They both suck! The dental only covers 2 cleanings a year. Then you gotta pay %20 for the rest. If it is preventable..your screwed.

Looking at 2006 pricing, the premiums go up quite a bit. My current plan is $20.91 per month--will go up to $36/month! That plan has no deductible, but can only use in-network doctors. Routine stuff has a $15 copay, covered $100 after that. Other stuff (surgery, ambulance, etc) covered at 90%

Dental will cost $4.76/month for the "low" option, $8.98 for the high. High option has a $50 deductible (individual), covers 100% of preventative (cleaning, xrays, etc). It does only allow 2 cleanigs per year, but that is standard for most (if not all) dental plans--that's what dentists recommend. If you have perio work done, you get 2 "perio maintenance" appointments covered at like 80%. Major work is covered at 50%, ortho at 50%

The "low' option has no deductible, but only covers 50% of "basic" (fillings, etc), 30% of major, and 35% of ortho.

Yours sound alot better than U's.

Just wait til you try and USE those health ins. benefits. I feel like I'm on a controlled 80/20 plan....use our providers and we might pay. AND if we ever ratify a new contract the benefits are going to change big time. Currently the Mech. and Flight Attendants have more options than the rest of the company...because of the diminished benefits clause in the current contract. It all changed last year. Once both groups have new contracts we will follow the rest of the company in paying more copay, more for prescriptions, more for physical therapy and most services that are supposed to be covered 100% now will only be covered 90%...which means we might get 50% coverage. One of our first officers told me he and his wife had a baby a few years ago when we were covered by Cigna (loved that coverage...never a problem). He said routine birth, etc.. and they paid only the copays. They just had another baby, this time under the new health ins plan. It cost them nearly $3000. for the same type of birth. That is a huge jump.

But the baby is cute!!! 😀

Oh, and yes, the premiums have been going up each year. Mine doubled last year and they will double again this year...paying $55.40 a month. Thank goodness my son is an employee here too and pays his own premiums...the family rate is $151.02 per month.

It depends on the workgroup. Pilots, Flight Attendants & Mechanics (strange combination), etc. Neveda and Minnesota residents have their own programs, and El Paso for some reason is carved out too.

And, of course, if you deliberately get yourself sick--like shutting yourself up in aluminum tubes all day with every sick person in N. America--well, you can't expect us to pay for such willful behavior on your part.

The thing that makes me crazy these days are these people that get on the plane hacking and coughing and sneezing and "no, they don't think that a fever of 102 is any reason to change their travel plans."
