Merger is imminent

Merger "announcement" is imminent....Merger is WAAAY off down the road (they can not combine or do anything that smacks of collusion until approval from the DOJ [which will digest the advice of the Congressional committee on Aviation/Transportation-of which is Chaired by Congressman James OBERSTAR]/DOT, if ever.

If the management wants this to go through without the pilots at NWA onboard, then it will happen, regardless what Oberstar wants. There's a lot of money that will be made on this transaction and i'm sure some of if will land in Oberstar's coffers. The NWA pilots will just have to figure it out later. There are plenty of people to fill the position without them. I think "Play the Odds" is looking for a position now

That's where you are wrong borescope. If management thought that, they wouldn't have wasted their time asking in the first place. Like they really care what Delta or NW pilots think...IF they weren't forced to. You simply believe that because you think Delta will somehow come out on top. If I were you, I'd think back not too long ago when a small carrier name US/HP was breathing down your neck. What many of you fail to realize...is NW is already running the show at Delta. The name of the airline has changed but the person remains the same...RAnderson came from NW (16 years) hand picked over all other Delta Lt. They didn't pick Gordan B, Crandell, Edwards, Wolf...or any other airline exec. They went after a NW man.

We will see the drama unfold this week if a merger "attempt" is announced. Both the NWA pilots, Oberstar (if you think Oberstar is just another sleazy politician you are in for a big surprise. I suggest you read his impeccable Bio. He is a salt of the earth, highly educated, brilliant leader who's been around for a VERY LONG time), and the other NW Unions have been very quite this week. We haven't lasted as the oldest of the original Flag carriers by being stupid. At issue here is a silly Advertising man as Chairman of an Airline (bostock). His bio is one of merging Ad companies. Evidently, no one has told him airlines/ unions are quite different then the dainty world of Advertising.

NxNW, do you think Oberstar has softened his anti-merger stance at all seeing as 3 airlines have gone out of business, 1 in Ch 11 restructuring and oil seems to just keep going up? Do you think that if/when he calls the powers-that-be (Anderson, Steenland) before Congress that they won't say "if you don't approve this, then even MORE employees will be out of work" ? Also, if they are forced to give up some routes, don't you think they will say "there are plenty of Southwests' and JetBlue ready to take over, thus greater competition? I see on the MSP Tribune site that many of the posters there are glad because they know that NW will lose the monopoly on Minn/StP and they might get some low-cost carriers like SW in there. They seem to be excited by the prospect. I'm not doubting what you're saying, I'm just bringing up other possibilities. Personally, a month ago, when oil was $95/barrel, I would have totally agreed with your assessment. But I don't think I do anymore w/ oil being $111/barrel. And I know that oil is going to be high regardless of a merger or not. But I think what you can read between the lines is the "synergies" stuff: that's just fancy talk for (geographically close/duplicate) hub closures, streamlining the airline for max profit and with that, unfortunately job losses. I bet the tack they may take is it's either that or the WHOLE ship could go down. Thoughts?

I haven't seen you compare apples to apples here NxNW. The US fiasco was a completely different animal. Big difference between a merger and hostile takeover.

Anderson was with NW how long ago?? 16 years is an awfully long time in airline years. If your issues with Anderson are because he didn't bow down to the unions, more power to him.

Have you ever had any experience with a Delta merger? I have and we treat our new members with dignity and respect, some traits I don't think your union people are familiar with judging from your posts. Give this all the drama you want to. Let's see who will be unemployed.

Oberstar can't do anything to stop this and provided they write a large enough check to his campaign, all of his issues with this will go away. <_<

He did so much for Northwest's employees when management took them to the cleaners during bankruptcy. He stood up for the AMFA when they went on strike and brought pressure against NWA for the substandard maintenance that the scabs were performing. He helped... Oh, wait he didn't do any of those things.

I understand you're not a fan of the merger and I can't say I really am either but I'm curious how your co-workers feel. We were on the bus with a NWA crew the other day and the flight attendants were all talking. The only way I can describe the NWA crew was excited with the merger prospect (they were also coveting the DL FA uniform). Maybe they were just being nice for our benefit. The NW Capt threw in a nice "I can't wait to be SLC based since I commute from PHX" on the way off the bus. All I could think of was "that bum's gonna bump me down the list". 🙂

My feeling is that management is going to go out of their way to make former NWA employees know they are part of the family. Like you've said so many times, the name may be Delta, but it's NWA-Delta and it looks like we may have been taken over by old NW guys. If this thing is approved I hope we can all work together and make this the best airline company out there. Best

Finally a retort that makes sense!! We will make this the best airline ever!! There are some crappy attitudes we have to deal with first though, and deal with them we shall NxNW.

What a clap trap! Delta is a business that has screwed their employees just like all the ‘other’ businesses do and will continue to do!
Save your ‘heart felt’ family for others that will buy into it.

Every time I hear of this ‘we are a family’ lie, I hear dueling banjos and pigs squealing.

It is just a f#(king ‘job’!

No more, no less!

Come on board with that attitude and you will find yourself jobless. Is this the mindset your union has instilled??

So its not just a job?

What is it, your life?

Jeez. You have not been in the industry long, have you?

So?

It is not true?

Give me an example on how it isn't!

Does your super watch your kids when you have to work a double shift 'for the family'?

Give me a break.......

Quite an apropos statement though that reflects your mindset.

Do the 'Masters' bidding and you will have a job!

[Deleted by Moderator- with time off given. We are not going to start this merger talk with name calling and insults. Anyone else want time off go for it.

I'm all for making it the BEST airline., but would you just lighten up a little? How would you like it if it had been the other way around..Delta losing their 80-year name, HQ, etc...?? If you really want to "welcome" the NW people, give them some space right now. They need time to process the fact that they may very well be working for the same people (Anderson) but a different airline. Some of you Deltoids think it's all about you, 24hrs a day.
