Merger talk still simmers at US Airways

You wish.

Unless Congress relaxes the foreign ownership limits your airline is stuck.

And those 'analysts' quoted in the link are amusing.

Especially the one advocating the purchase of an all-cargo carrier.

Riiiiiiiiiight........

I think it's pretty obvious that merger rumors have been and will be "simmering" at US until there is either a merger or US goes out of business. Correct that - add "or Parker retires." Anyway, there's definitely no news there - must be a slow day in Charlotte.

SETH KAPLAN has a pretty good handle on it! MM!

Agreed...apparently he is more realistic in his assessment than Parker.

I wonder how Parker will handle a merger when he realizes US will be the acquired, not the acquirer......early retirement??

Any combination leaving Team Tempe in charge fully intact will be problematic IMO. There are some very good managers there, but until employees and customers are treated like assets rather than liabilities, the same problems will linger. Taking the other partner's view of customers and employees would probably change the outlook in a positive way.

Still, for many reasons, US is still the ugly girl at the dance...I don't see the new UA or DL being ready for another acquisition for years...and regardless of what Parker says, the labor difficulties which linger at US are a detriment to any future combination.

Anybody who says something you like has a pretty good handle on it according to you... So which part of this did you like? CLT shrinking/disappearing? "No good airport real estate"? That US offers little that anyone else wants?

"The airline says it has a revenue disadvantage compared with its major competitors. Its hub cities in Charlotte, Phoenix and Philadelphia aren't as lucrative as competitors' markets such as Atlanta, New York City or Chicago, the company says."

Someone forgot to tell "the company" they had a hub in this lucrative market until recently I guess. Wonder if those were Parkers words or just the reporter adding some fill?

Even better is this quote:

"Mike Flores, head of US Airways' flight attendants' union, said Parker is correct about the likelihood of a merger.

"He's right; there is one big merger left," Flores said. "Who it will be with is anybody's guess." A bigger, merged airline could offer more long-term job stability for US Airways' workers, he said."

Is this like the stability everyone is enjoying from the merger they are in now? I can't believe that the head of the flight attendants union now shows himself to be company cheerleader.

Well sure. If US merges with another AFA represented carrier, all those whiney 20 year Reserves will quit bugging Mike about the crappy LTO system. 😛

That was my thought too, Jim. I couldn't believe this was on our front page. It was mostly rehashing stuff from several years ago.

Yeah..slow news day.
