More job cuts coming at Delta

Same thing came out in an article on Delta Net yesterday... You have to wonder how long it'll be before voluntary leaves/early outs aren't enough anymore...

On the "frontline" side of things, according to this article, with the Sept. schedule, MSP will be down 55 M/L flights from where it is now, and DTW will be down 60. No idea how many will be backfilled with CP (or other airlink) flights, but still...

DL established post 9/11 that having regularly "purging" of its salaried/merit employee staff is a necessary move in order to be able to regularly weed out the weak performers. This has happened w/ a fair degree of regularity over the past 10 years and it is almost always the weakest employees that are forced out. Strong performers are accommodated somewhere in the company, even if their positions are eliminated. It is not a good thing to guarantee job security to merit employees.

Incidentally, DL does have one of the lowest General and Administrative cost burdens of the US airlines.

Are you serious?

weed out the weak performers.
generally what that means is simply..

"I dont like that person" (a personal issue)

"that person might be promoted ahead of me, so lets get rid of them" (another personal issue)

sometimes its not that people are necessarily weak but others have set them up to fail...

a company that is focused.. works with all their people and helps those who are needing improvement..(some will understand what that means..)

I thought the post was in regards to solely a financial reason for the cuts not weeding out the "weak ones"?

So by saying that, you feel it's wonderful Delta pays it's employee's a lot less then other's. Aren't you a peach.

Maybe it's because Delta doesn't have as many cheifs as other airlines and not what they pay them, that constitutes the "Lower cost structure" !

Way to look at both sides of the coin though !

Nawwwwww, once again you're wrong. FACT: Delta compensates its salaried group so low that they have no clue as how to reach pay parity with the NW salaried employees!

most seasoned employees know how to do their jobs, and importantly, most times know exactly what is necessary and then of course what may not based simply on being familiar with a job function.

other than accountability issues, actually listening to those who are familiar with their own department regarding staffing or how a product should be delivered based on front line input.. while keeping communications open and displaying a real sense of respect, micro management is really not all that necessary.

personally do not wish to see anyone's job cut or anyone for that matter lose a job

(because how jobs support the community)

but then again do not want to see unnecessary management job creation.. when sometimes all they need to do is..

keep a direct line of communication open (to their most valuable asset in a department)

the employees.

I'm a former Delta/Song/Delta F/A, please do me the favor and don't tell me what I was paid. We the un-unioned F/A's were are large part of the rape job that went on to bring the company in-line to have the lowest costs. So don't.

that went on to bring the company in-line to have the lowest costs. So don't.
I keep hearing over and over that Delta Flight Attendants are paid more than we are at NWA, so I am just confused anymore regarding these lowest costs and who are actually..or basically which ones are paid lower? I sort of think both groups are not compensated as we should be.. taking into consideration the number of planes we are going to be required maintaining qualifications. JMO.

but I think in reference to lowest cost on this thread it is focused on management/administration positions.
