Mt Rushmore - A 5th Head?

Good grief.  Who pissed in your cheerios?  You want to know who should be a 5th (no one in my opinion) and I just want to know why we have the first 4 in the first place.  Not sure what your problem is.  You think Im a asshole.  Big whoop.  LIke you are the only one who believes that.  Pitch a hissy fit and stomp your feet like a 5 yr old.  Like I give a damn.

Funny how after 15 posts not a single person actually made a sincere answer.

See? Two word response, NO ONE. Simple, easy peasey japaneasy.

Now serving the next customer. Next please, who's next in line?

I was thinking it should follow Citizens United and be auctioned off to highest bidder.

In which case the 5th person would undoubtedly be Reagan, the plutocrat messiah.

According to Wikipedia the monument was completed in 1941 at a total cost of $989,992.32, or $247,498.08 per President.  According to this website, $247,498.08 would be $3,910,000 in 2013 dollars if we simply multiply the figure by the percentage change in increase of the consumer price index since 1941.  Interestingly, there are other calculations they provide that look at, for instance, the relative share of a project cost as a percentage of economic output, and that one yields a figure of $32,100,000 for a carved President in 2013 dollars, which is still far cheaper than buying an actual President.  I see such a project today costing a lot more than four million dollars.

Private donors might be the best way to go about funding it, although the GOP House majority might make an exception in their austerity agenda to enshrine Reagan in stone. I'm sure they'd be more willing to do it for him than they would the new-dealing FDR or even JFK. I have no personal preference.

The other option is they could complete the monument per its original design, which originally had the Presidents sculpted down to the waist.

You know Glenn I actually thought along the same lines. In which case RR is the likely winner. For me personally I'm leaning towards JFK if it were my decision to make. Why JFK?

Cuban Missile Crisis handled without a shot fired in anger between two super powers
Service to his country in WWII.
Key figure in the civil rights movement
Established goals for the nation, most noted by putting a man on the moon
His diplomacy when the Berlin Wall was erected.

JFK was first last a foremost a Patriot and a true leader. Some would argue the last one we've had. I'd include RR as well, but n many ways he merely picked up where JFK left off with the USSR.

This is why there will never be a fifth president on Mt. Rushmore.  Any attempt to do so would degenerate into the discussion on this thread.  Except on a national level.

Check your history sparrow, JFK organized, trained, and transported a bunch of anti-Castro fighters to Cuba in an attempt to over through the Communist Government. They were promised back up by the U.S.Navy if things went bad. But were abandoned  when things did, at the Bay of Pigs!

I know of the Bay of Pigs Invasion and I know of his actions. It was early in his Presidency and it's my feeling that he learned a valuable lesson that served him well later.

Since you brought up History, look at JFK's political views and even thogh he was considered "Liberal" his views on a great many issues were to the right of Ronald Reagan.

For example when he cut taxes to spur a sluggish economy he was quoted "A rising tide lifts all boats" which is in basic terms trickle down economics.

He cut the top tier tax rate from 91% to 65%. I think we should cut the current top tier tax rate to 65%.  All those in favor?

The appropriate Income Tax rate is ZERO Percent for all Citizens.

Before 1913 we managed to build a nation without an income tax.

It's 2014 now. A few things have changed.

What's changed is people figured out they could loot the public trough for personal and corporate gain at the expense of the working class. It's often called crony capitalism, the welfare state, the nanny state among other less kind words. In short the banksters own us.
