Time to lock another thread. You people are going for a record of locked threads in 24 hours.
And an interesting thing it is. I went back to check - seems some past threads about employee's off the clock and off the property behavior went on for much more time, had as many posts, and contained some pretty heated exchanges. I guess DP's foibles have become off limits though.

It's a shame in a way, since there's a bigger issue that hasn't been discussed (though I've certainly tried to inject it a few times). If a company has a policy that proports to apply to all employees, should the company administer that policy selectively depending on the office of the offender?

Agreed, it does make one ponder the ethics of two sets of standards and rules and leading by example, etc. It really shouldn't matter what position the person holds, the rule/play book should apply to everyone equally.

They'll certainly want to weigh each step leading to the action/reaction they take at this point, especially from a legal standpoint. They may open themselves up to a lot future actionable judgements if they decide inappropriately.

What a hornet's nest.

I think to many it's a given that we live in "Don't do as I do, DO as I SAY" world.
Bob,

I certainly agree that it's a given, and unlikely to change. Not aiming this at you personally, but breaking of any rule by someone is a given and unlikely to change. Should there therefore be no discussion of the rules or whether they should be enforced uniformly or not?

I guess it's human nature to abandon all logic when defending those one supports. In politics, some painted Bush as a drunkard because of problems in his younger days yet excused Clinton for then-current mistakes. On the other side, some lambasted Clinton for his youthful "I didn't inhale", yet excused Bush's "youthful" indescretions as being "in the past".

Talking about this at work in the past couple of days we all came to a conclusion.....we are officially a Low Class Carrier now that our CEO got arrested for drunk driving! Way to go Doug....now we can fly our pride flag high and strong!

Last I checked he is just a mere human. This could of happened to nearly any one of us @ some point in the past.

He was never elevated by me, so no lower in my eyes after this.

Is there any coincidence here?

The Arizona Republic reported Friday that after Parker was arrested by Dallas police in January 1991 on suspicion of drunken driving, he pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge of DUI and was given a probated sentence of 30 days in jail, two years probation and a $250 fine.

Parker worked for American Airlines from 1986-91,

hmmm....arrested in 1991, leaves American in 1991?????

Doesn't the Business Conduct and Ethics Policy spell out situations where one brings adverse publicity and controversy upon the company and dictate the consequences?
Or is it the posted rules of conduct?
Or both? 😉
