You have to wonder what kind of people they will get at this salary.

Article is here

This is an actual press release from NWA. Unbelievable.

We'll see what finman's "market pay" brings to the table.

Well, if it's anything like what it brought to the table out here, it won't be much...

In the past, the low starting rate wasn't so bad because you knew if you stuck it out, it'd be worth it. For people just starting out, it's not going to be. Ten years to top out, all the while in the snow or heat on a crappy shift just isn't worth it to them. Better to go somewhere like Target, where at least you'll be indoors.

$9 an hr is not worth it. Back breaking work, get bruned by chemicals, inhale jetwash ... You can work in the resturants and make more on tips.
Oh and wait. We also have to pay medical?

"For Make Benefit Glorious Northwest"

Hey, are free flight bennies to hotspots like ABE included?

Soon Uncle Gerry from Texas will make all your troubles go away.

Right on mark, Kev. What type of people are they going to attract?

when i used to work for mesaba i flew to DTW for a couple of days of training. I went over to the hangar the next morning and noticed they were having an "open house" they were doing some hiring. and i couldn't believe how many people showed up!! my guess is NWA will have no problems finding people to work

Well after 2 open houses, we finally got all of *one* new guy on the ramp...

...His second (or first?) job is as a stripper; he's been here 3 days and is already trying to trade away his Friday and Saturday night shifts ("but in training they told me I'd be working during the day?").

10 to 1....
they don't last the winter.

Today I got my first (furlough) paycheck of 5 weeks pay from NW in the mail.

Also in today's mail was a letter from NW asking me to consider opportunities in their Ground Operations division as a full-time ESE at MSP for the starting wage of $9.00/hr.

After getting a good chuckle from reading it  , I taped my employee badge to the letter, and will be mailing it back to the company tomorrow signifying my resignation from NW.

On Dec. 4, I start a new chapter in my aviation career with Comair at CVG.

PurduePete, best wishes for the new position with Comair. No doubt in my mind you are doing the right thing.
Like I said in my earlier post at US they have just hired a bunch of thugs. People laugh when they hear of the low pay & I think it starts at $9.78 per hour for part time ramp.

What some places do .... like NW is to offer this "great opportunity" at some local colleges/universities that requires students to do intern (business, travel industry degree) at a workplace.

Unfortunately, this is one job I wouldn't want my son doing because once you bust your back.... that's it!
