New Mexico orders US Airways to stop serving alcohol

I would also like to add that the flying time from Phoenix to Albuquerque is usually around 45 to 50 minutes. With the flights almost always being at or near capacity, I just cannot see how this passenger was able to consume gross amounts of alcohol provided by the carrier on such a short segment.

If this passenger was indeed served by us, and was traveling in coach, he MAYBE got one drink down because that was probably all we had time to serve him.
Exactly. But why should this gentleman be held responsible for killing people? I mean, after all, he was served drinks! Shut down the Redi Mart, sue US and pull their license, and find out where this poor man was throwin back brewski's in the PHX airport, fine them immediately, and pull their liquor license. Seems logical, no? Sure, he killed people, but as you can see, it was clearly not his fault! 🙂

Don’t forget; take the flight attendants life away. Put them in jail. They did this: No one should take personal responsibility in a matter like this. Its was the Bar's fault, US Airways fault, The flight attendants fault, The US Airways In-flight Trainers fault for not teaching the flight attendant, It was the gate agent's fault, It was the bartender's fault, It was the beer's companies fault, It was the car manufacturing’s fault for not staying on the road, It was NM fault (Drivers Lic's dept for passing him though to get a Drivers Lic). It was the always someone else’s fault............. Never take personal responsibility in a matter like this... ALWAYS BLAME OTHERS!!!!SHEESH....

I find it interesting that New Mexico thinks it owns the airspace above it. There really is no New Mexico airspace. The federal government long ago trumped the states on that issue, and is solely in control of the airspace over all of the United States.

NM can probably prohibit carriers from serving alcohol while on the ground in NM, but probably little else.

I'm not sure how carriers are licensed to serve alcohol, but my guess is that USAirways (and AWA) have the required authority to do so, and the NM officials were just too ignorant to find the information (or didn't wish to do so, in order to deflect blame.) This story got them the headlines they wanted, and when USAirways is vindicated, the story will appear buried on page 19.
