Northwest Airlines Announces New Service Between Minneapolis/St. Paul and Syracuse, N.Y.
Wednesday March 31, 10:30 am ET
New Nonstop Jet Service to Begin July 12

MINNEAPOLIS, March 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Northwest Airlines (Nasdaq: NWAC - News) today announced new daily nonstop service between its hub at Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport and Syracuse, N.Y. Two daily flights will be offered beginning July 12.
"We welcome Syracuse as the 164th nonstop destination served from our hub at Minneapolis/St. Paul," said Tom Bach, vice president of market planning and Airlink. "These new flights, together with existing service between Syracuse and the Northwest WorldGateway at Detroit hub, will provide central New York with an even broader array of destinations throughout the United States, Canada and Asia."

Northwest currently serves Syracuse with four daily flights to Detroit.

"Syracuse remains a strong business market for air service," said Mayor Matthew J. Driscoll. "This new Northwest nonstop service to Minneapolis/St. Paul will enhance both leisure and business connections to points farther west. This demonstrates that demand for air service in Syracuse, and our efforts to improve air service, are getting results."

The new service will be operated with Northwest Airlink partner Pinnacle Airlines Corp.'s 44- or 50-passenger Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ). The CRJ features a spacious cabin with comfortable two-by-two leather seating and other cabin amenities similar to larger jets, such as overhead bins, a galley, lavatory, and an efficient climate control system to ensure passenger comfort.

The flights are open for sale now through www.nwa.com , through travel agencies or Northwest Airlines Reservations at 1-800-225-2525.

Seems like SYR keeps growing and growing with all this added service from NW, JetBlue, TransMeridien, etc.

No cause for celebration as this again is NOT mainline service. More CRJ service, or should I say tight cramped CRJ service.

Agreed. Too much new/additional growth is going to Pinnacle. Since we own these aircraft and lease them back, maybe it's time to do what some other carriers do, and intergrate them into the mainline fleet (start as a replacement for the DC9-10). Just a thougt.

It's obvious that NWA crews don't ever intend to work at 9E or XJ rates, so integrating the CRJ fleet isn't going to work. Compare 9E pay rates to DC9-10, and see how a profitable aircraft can quickly become a loss maker...
