US AIRWAYS TO BEGIN NEW NONSTOP FLIGHTS TO ORLANDO FROM FIVE NORTHEAST CITIES

ARLINGTON, Va., Nov. 10, 2003 -- US Airways announced today that it will begin Saturday-only nonstop service between Orlando and Albany, Buffalo and Syracuse, N.Y., Hartford, Conn., and Providence, R.I., on Feb. 14, 2004. The new flights will operate year-round.

"Orlando is one of the most popular leisure destinations from the Northeast," said Daniel M. McDonald, US Airways vice president of planning and scheduling. "These new flights will make it more convenient for our customers in these communities to travel to Orlando in time for the peak winter travel period."

At Orlando, US Airways and US Airways Express operate 31 daily flights, with service to Charlotte, N.C., Fort Walton Beach and Panama City, Fla., Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Washington Reagan National airport.

US Airways is the nation's seventh-largest airline, serving nearly 200 communities in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America. US Airways, US Airways Shuttle, and US Airways Express carriers operate over 3,300 flights per day. For more information on US Airways schedules and fares, visit usairways.com.

Looks like some competition with Airtran who has been increasing flights out of MCO more and more. Good to see that the many gates we have at MCO will finally get used. However, i dont know how affective these flights will be only 1x week. US should consider adding flights from LGA and BOS even though they are already flooded with service.

Actually, this is not new. Only new to the new management group.

USAir and -ways did this for years until recent history. Not exactly an accurate press release.

That's correct. U ran MCO nonstops from these cities for many years and they were very successful in terms of loads. It only makes sense. These are markets traditionally dominated by U for business travelers. When the FF who uses U for biz decides to take the kids to Disney, it would seem he/she would have a natural bias toward U. However, when LCCs offer non-stops to MCO and U abandons these markets on a non-stop basis, then they're just handing good business to the competition. Of course, when they left these markets, they claimed that full flights weren't enough since most of the traffic was flying on - gasp! - discount tix!!! Perhaps with all of the concessions made by labor, the new "cost structure" can once again support these traditionally full flights. Who knows - if it works - maybe these flights will be more than a once-a-week occurance. In any case, it's a good first step and nice to see CCY trying something different to pull back some old passengers - or maybe attract some new ones.

ABE also HAD MCO daily service that was full most of the time. As usual we could not make a profit so away it went. Now Southeast is running MD-80's out of ABE filled with our unwanted passengers. Bring it back and let's run them out of the market. DL Express also had ABE-MCO, and left it all to us, only to have us squander that away too. We could have raised the fares a few bucks to see what the response would be, but it was easier to pull the plug without any effort.

That is so true from where I sit in BOS. Plenty of business travellers who also want to get to FL for vacation, and many times, business too. It's an important destination (not to mention origin), whether or not management thinks it's low yield. Flying U is a pain in the butt when there are so many other nonstop choices, and more coming online with Jetblue. Not a single nonstop to FL from BOS, on supposedly the biggest east coast carrier (if that's true anymore). I can't understand the efficiency of flying full planes to a hub, and continuing full planes south. U could fly limited nonstops from the bigger NE cities, and STILL fill a number of planes at the hubs from connecting smaller cities.

SO,Let's see we pulled out of the non-stop MCO routes to run everything
thru the hub and now we are back flying the non-stops to MCO.

WILL YOU IDIOTS MAKE UP YOUR MIND.

I got a better one let's not fly the RJ'S and fly airplanes that can carry

passengers instead of leaving them at the gate waving good-bye to the a/c that just left them standing due to weight problems.

WILL SOMEONE PLEASE RUN THIS COMPANY

AND NOT DOWN THE DRAIN.
