WN used to be looked down on w/ some disdain on this board by both employees and PAX

-it's not CO-

Times seemed to have changed w/ budgets.

WN is in the purest sense about "the fares".

I wouldnt say it has anything to do with the fares. WN is usually more expensive. People only THINK they're cheap. Their customer service is second to none. I have yet to encounter ONE disgruntled WN employee. It is simply amazing.

I use WN for walk up fares. When I'm flying US, and there is a delay, I'll call WN and back myself up on Southwest. IF I actually make it out on the US flight, Ill cancel the WN flight, no penalty, full cash refund. i dont know what the deal is but for some reason "weather" never seems to effect WN like it does US...

It's the value delivered for those fares.

Indeed. They ignore the fact that I get to board first, really board first, not the fake first boarding call US offers, and I get better seat pitch, apparently clean planes, a free drink, and snack. It may end up being awful, but I have to give it a shot. Based on what I've heard from Art, and what I hopefully will experience next week, the extreme arrogance of some will not be able to withstand the fact that US charges far more for far less.

I think you're going to be extremely impressed. The boarding process is great, the seats are comfortable, and the planes are spotless inside. Last week I flew on an old WN 737-300, I checked the airworthyness certificate and it said 1985. It looked NEW inside. You know how on the US planes, the passenger console lights are like this stained orange color, these looked like they had been replaced. No crud in cracks, not even a pen mark on the seats. Even in the gate areas, they have installed these cushy seats for their biz travellers, complete with electricity and USB rechargers for your phones.

Southwest employees are amazing. They really love their jobs. They have always managed to exceed my expectations.

I booked a ticket PHX-OMA for Christmas - but had to get there and could not rely on non-revving......$1200 for 2 of us. WOW! That is really expensive, and I have to say I have flown WN many times. Their service is OK - but not much beyond that. As an airline employee I pay more attention than most - and I think they are standard. I have never been on a flight that exceeded my expectations. They are average - again, my opinion - but their fares are not cheap. I booked our X-mas reservations a month ago.

It's Christmas in the middle of nowhere Omaha...what did you expect?

Where have I heard THAT line before? 🙄 🙄

Guess its gonna be pretty quiet here once everyone migrates to the WN and CO boards?  😛h34r:

Of course you are assumnig that Singleflyer is the only one who would have purchased the $1000 ticket. Maybe there was someone else who did?
I just checked in a guy tonight that had a full F $1250 ticket one way TPA-SFO. They are out there.

Tad

that is a very valid point. However, I am sure you will agree, the chances of a lower priced ticket being sold is much greater than the full fare ticket.

<SNIP> I went to visit a friend in a reputable hospital in Boston this evening and discovered that if you wanted to watch the t.v, you had to pay a fee!!
So flying on US can be compared to a visit to the proctologist?

The one thing I like on Southwest is being able to stay on the plane as a thru-passenger. If I'm flying from LAX to (anywhere East), I can pick from several flights with one stop, usually in Phoenix or Houston, and my connect time is about 20-30 minutes, sitting on the plane with a few minutes to stretch legs. I like that better than an hour or two at the Presidents Club, most times because it gets me there faster.

Non-stops are few and far between on a lot of routes, but there are usually good non-stop options between the major cities but those flights are in high demand.

I'm not a huge fan of Southwest because I like an airline that provides more service, but it is a good example of "low cost" air transportation that works well.

I can't speak for my fellow frequent flyers, but I plan on sticking around here even after I have moved my business to CO. I still care about the employees and the fate of the company.
