Nuclear Power

With a historic record of 'big' earthquakes and tsunami's, why would you build a 'basement' and stick your backup generators there?

I am certainly not a 'knowledgeable person' on this issue but if the brainiacs can't do a simple process map to figure it out then we better start gathering fire wood.

JMHO

Worked with a guy from DFW......he told me of the floods they had down there a few years ago. They did exactly what you refer to, in their hospitals and duh came into play. Now they moving them.
The earthquake apparently wasn't the problem.....looks like the tsunami wiped out the cooling backups and so on.....I'm sure there are several of those unknowns that popped up too.
So west coast nukes are built to withstand what level?

Anyone notice another huge eruption in Hawaii yesterday? Same thing happened I think two weeks prior to the Japan quake. makes one wonder where next.

exUT....thanks for the across the aisle love, Brother. 😉

So much for 'lessons learned'. When I worked in engineering, we used to have a data collection database with 'lessons learned', wonder where that is now...

I still find it incredibly stupid to put backups in a basement unless it is so high up that flooding is not an issue. (which can't be done because the inherent design of the plant needs a steady supply of water (coolant) by river or ocean).

It was either arrogance or cost savings.

I have no doubt that the 'design features' are common to the industry.

How much across the isle are we?
Luv U Man... 😛 😛 😛
