Weirdest thing, I was driving into PIT to catch a flight and saw a NWA 747 parked at Gate 50 of the B terminal. The buzz around the airport was that it got diverted but I was curious if anyone knew more about it? Since PIT got killed off as a US Airways hub, that is one of the biggest passenger planes that has come by in recent memory.

Thanks!

wow a 74 in PIT wonder if it diverted there due to weather????? my guess it was due to to as typical, the maintaince issue!

Yeah, I was pretty surprised. Caught this from the local paper:

"...

A special nonstop charter flight handled by Northwest Airlines was detained at Pittsburgh International Airport when a mechanical issue was discovered while fueling the aircraft. While the problem was being fixed, the flight's crew timed out. The flight is now rescheduled for 8 p.m., said airport spokeswoman Joann Jenny.

Looks like it is a charter. Still very unusual. Watch the flight path here:

Flt 9849 ferried into PIT to run a charter. it was late into there due to maintenance being performed in MSP....

Once in PIT, a fueling error caused the center tank valve to need to be replaced.

The routing is/was PIT-HNL-SYD... It's currently on it's way to SYD as I type this...

Trivia for the PIT natives: What's the last commercially scheduled 747 airline service into/out of PIT?

**answer below**
