If the airlines adopted a fuel surcharge for pax (just like they have for cargo -- forty cents per kg!) the boys/girls from the north could remain fat and happy.
But they won't.
But they won't.

A cap indeed makes sense as part of the wholesale restructuring that DL initiated. Not only does the cap keep the maximum fare from growing to levels that INVITE LCCs, it also keeps consumers and businesses believing that fares are reasonable and they no longer have to rely on travel agents and negotiated fares to find the best deals.
Actually, I'd bet the other way; most employees of NW remain skeptical of mgmt. 's entreaties for concessions because they can't forget the promises still unfulfilled from the last time around ('93).NAPAUS said:.... We played the reality card and did better than Dal, so you tell me WHO is in denial. We have faced this demon before...perhaps that is why we were better prepared. Don't you worry about us. Reality is grand...glad you got a taste of it. We are battle hardened and no doubt will be around for the next down turn. Will Delta?
