Northwest Airlines Corp. got approval for two financing deals Thursday that will help the company add new planes and cut the costs of existing planes.

Airbus and United Technologies Corp.'s Pratt & Whitney Engine Division will provide the financing.

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York City agreed to keep many specific terms of the pacts - including the total number of planes to be financed - confidential for competitive reasons.

There were no objections to the finance agreements, and an attorney representing Northwest's unsecured creditors said he favored the deal.

The only problem I have with this deal is that it does nothing to rid Northwest of its DC-9 fleet. The 9's are paid for but their inefficiency has to almost cancel that fact out.

This deal was being put together long before the strike and in fact was rewritten after the bankruptcy. Northwest is getting a very sweet deal on these aircraft.

Scab Air can't afford to dump the DC-9's, they don't have the cash or the credit. The scabs aren't helping matters by having parts continuously falling off aircraft. Scab Air management stupidly boasted a few years ago how the DC-9's were saving the airline, what a arrogant mistake.

ScAir Bus will do anything to sqeeze out Boeing, they gave Jet Blue aircraft for several years free of charge to get the airline going. Its kind of the same with P@W, they have much invested in Scab Air, and they will give more in order to keep from losing all the equipment they have invested.

Will it be enough to save Scab Air? Time will tell.
