But they wouldn't have been able to do their patriotic duty. And the way things were back in those "fer us or agin us" days...one could have been called unAmerican for not shopping.
KCFlyer--
When responding to Southwind, don't bother with subtle sarcasm, wit, or nuance; he doesn't get it.
What ? And run it into the ground like the UAW.........and their idiotic "Job Banks" !
Is this the only thing you can think of when it comes to the UAW? The Job Bank is going to be gone soon, in case you've been living in a cave for the last few weeks.
Besides the obvious hand they had in the creation of America's middle class, here's a few other things they played a role in:
* Fought gov't & corporate sanctioned segregation in Southern factories.
* Supported MLK's march on Washington in 1963
* Bailed MLK out of jail
*Opposed the Vietnam war
* Left the AFL-CIO after Labor took a bit of a turn to the right.
* Opposed apartheid (Nelson Mandela celebrated his release with UAW LL600 in DTW on his post prison tour of the US).
* Lit up Automakers for failing to design/market more fuel efficient cars
In my mind, every last one of these things was infinitely more patriotic than buying a "Dualie" in September of 2001.
What have they done lately, you ask? Let's see... Oh yeah! Revamped their CBA's in order to make them more competitive with other auto makers, and are willing to do more so again.
If you're going to insist on one sentence posts, at least make them educated ones...
