As part of the 1st and 2nd bankruptcy much of the order was reduced/renegotiated/deferred.
Does anyone know the types and number that are still in the books?

I have heard after the second bankruptcy that the remainder of the 321s were still on airbus' books and deferred to 2009. Although I did not hear if the 350/332 order replaced this order.

I'd have to do some digging to get the numbers, but the A320 series and A330 are slated for delivery starting in 2009. The A330's can be converted to A350's, so if that happened deliveries wouldn't start till they were available in 2011.

Well, like I said about the number - I'd have to do some digging to find the type of A320 series still on order. Don't remember off the top of my head which model(s) or how many. Just that they're supposed to come in the 2009-2020 timeframe.

Thanks didn't mean to come off needy.
I was just really curious since everybody is focused on the widebodies and the 190s.🙂

Hey, no problem and no offense taken.....

After scanning the agreement originally filed with the court, I can't find any specific A320 series types or numbers. But if I run across anything specific, I'll let you know.

Here's as specific as I've found so far:

Prior to the merger, US Airways Group had 19 A320-family aircraft on firm order with Airbus scheduled for delivery in the years 2008 through 2010. US Airways Group also had ten A330-200 aircraft on firm order with Airbus scheduled for delivery in the years 2008 and 2009. In connection with the merger, on May 18, 2005, Airbus, US Airways Group, US Airways and AWA executed a Memorandum of Understanding that, in addition to providing for a $250 million line of credit from Airbus upon the satisfaction of various conditions precedent (including the completion of the merger and the emergence of US Airways from bankruptcy), provides for the rescheduling of US Airways’ A320-family and A330-200 delivery commitments, and an order for 20 A350 aircraft, for which Airbus has agreed to provide backstop financing for a substantial number of aircraft, subject to certain terms and conditions. Under the Airbus Memorandum of Understanding, US Airways’ A320-family aircraft will be rescheduled for delivery in 2009 and 2010, with US Airways’ A330-200 aircraft orders rescheduled for delivery in 2009 and 2010. The new A350 aircraft deliveries are currently scheduled to occur during the period 2011 through 2013. The Airbus MOU also modifies the cancellation rights on US Airways Group’s orders for the ten A330-200 aircraft provided that US Airways Group has met certain predelivery payment obligations under the A350 order. On September 27, 2005, upon emergence from bankruptcy and effective with the merger, US Airways Group, US Airways and AWA executed an A350 Purchase Agreement with AVSA S.A.R.L. and executed amendments to its existing Airbus purchase agreements to support and finalize the transactions called for in the Airbus MOU.

Also included was:

On September 27, 2005, in connection with the merger, AWA amended its A320 family aircraft purchase contract with AVSA S.A.R.L., to reschedule 11 aircraft deliveries from 2006 and 2007 to 2009. All other terms remained unchanged.

[Edit to add]

The 11 orders that HP had pre-merger were for 319/320's and nothing says whether that changed with the modified agreement or not. I would presume that Airbus would let us pick between the 319/320/321 within reason.

Cool so hope is not lost on seeing more 321s do transcons. I went through the airbus website and for orders outstanding it has 6 320s left for delivery and 13 321s.

I was unsure if this was old data since sometimes Airbus takes a while to amend a long since canceled delivery.(NW 340 order)

6 320s + 13 321s = 19!!!

According to the info you got BoeingBoy that is the exact number of planes that were not canceled but rescheduled.

Two different people with different parts of the puzzle.
I love US aviation

Where did I recently read that the A350 needed a complete redesign to compete with the B787 and B777. I think the article said the A350 is nothing more than a modified A330 .

These golden years ain't so golden .

Initially, the 350 was touted as an "easy transition" from the A330 - from a maintenance perspective sharing many of the components and from a pilot perspective only requiring minimal training due to the same type certificate as the 330 (like the 757/767 combined type certificate)

But more recently (what you're probably referring to) it was reported that it would NOT use very many common parts from the 330 line, and that pilots would likely require a new type certificate. This is a significant increase in overall costs since the airline must pay more to maintain another aircraft type in terms of pilot/crew training, maintenance, etc. If it had shared more 330 parts, then a mixed fleet of 330/350 types would be a lot easier and more financially attractive.

Last weeks Aviation Week. Pretty bad press on the 350..calling is derivative and outdated. Just like the 747, the 787 will either make or break Boeing. Also, the issue before detailed the fantastic advancements made in United States aviation as a result of the B-2 and its creation. Looks like good old USA (Boeing) is going to benefit from the advancements in designs (composits sp?) from the B2 as applied to the 787. Airbus is simply going to try and "work the advancements into the design" as they come available..which will actually be 30 years AFTER the design of the B2. My prediction..the 787 will be such a success that the 350 will never be built..much less be offered for sale. Best. Greeter. (hey, hope I don't sound too much like USA320)

The A352 will be built, its a non loose for Airbus with the multi-gov. funding. I still prefer Boeing over the Airbus anyday 🙂 i wish US had gone ith Boeing, but since it didnt, hopefully Airbus will get its act together and offer a comparable aircraft to 787
