It took one of the few visionaries of the industry, Gordon Bethune, to pull them from the brink of oblivion. And he accomplished this not by beating up on employees and inconveniencing customers, but just the opposite.
Actually, and not to take away anything from Bethune, but I believe the ruling class just prior to Bethune introduced bringing employees into the management process and tried to re-enfranchise them by listening and incorporating their ideas into the corporate structure.
Bethune basically inherited a greatly improved corporation.
Just to set the record straight........
Quite honestly I am surprised they hired someone so OLD! I would have thought they would have plucked some 21year old Business Major from across the street at Arizona State. With many of the decisions being made, it sure looks like an inexperienced (NO SIGNIFICANT AIRLINE BACKGROUND) college graduate that can barely read a spread sheet is recharting the route of the Titanic. At 27, this dude may have interned at Dairy QueenPiney Bob, hits it on the head again! Is there a reason why Doogie will visit Charlotte but won't come near the hub that is melting away. How could corporate Usairways place a 27 year old in the seat of Director of Passenger Service in Philadelphia and expect things to improve? They are truly setting us up for failure. Just another day in paradise !
