OT Why Work It?

Hey G, What do you consider adequate pay for 8 hours of responsibility?
Also, how do you figure WE have been working very hard to get where WE are? WE have been going backwards for 8 years! Since it's managements fault, are you suggesting we help them out by taking the next concessionary TA?

No Odie I have never accepted and never will accept a concessionary contract. During my 25 years at AA I have never voted yes on any contract and do not have much faith that the TWU will now or ever bring back a contract worthy of my yes vote. As far as adequate pay it will have to be somewhere in the $45 dollar an hour range give me back the week of vacation they stole and all the holidays, reduce our medical contribution, shift differential of say 10%, taxi premium of say $5, line pay $5, geo premium based on GOA, sick leave restored to pre 2003, injury on duty leave restored to pre 2003, doubletime. I know I missed something (Oh ya full retro Pay) and I realize I am dreaming that AA would go that far or that many of my fellow AMT's would go on strike to be paid like professionals, but a boy can dream.

Are you people flipping kidding me? I see it everyday!!! You are complaining about working overtime at the easiest job you have or will ever have. the majority of you sit on your laptops most of the day and are actually go work on an aircraft for 2-3 hours. Some of you run your own businesses while on AA's time clock!!! If you had to or you ever worked in the real world of aviation you would know what real work is like!!! Take a look around you and see what other airline mechanics are doing that are non unionized and talk too them if you have the guts!!! I have been there and slaving away for a 20 hr or more shift is something most of you couldnt do. If the public knew qhat goes on there at "the best airline" in the world (VOMIT) they would be furious at the way you act!!!! Go ahead stop working the OT, why should you guys make $100, 000 plus a year to do nothing? I cannot believe the immaturity that goes on there. Why dont we ask the real world how they feel about what overtime means? Especially all those people that dont have a job and all those soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines fighting overseas, do you think they are getting overtime? Why dont you ask their families standing on the ramp as there coffin is being unloaded from a cargo bin. So cry babies cry I hope you get some satisfaction and sleep really well at night , oh and I hope AA lasts forever so you can do what you do best, afterall we are AMERICANS right supposedly the best of the best.....TOO BAD FOR US if you are our kids role models. AA did screw up, I will admit, they should have declared bankruptcy and disolved our precious contracts completely then maybe the airline would be doing better and you know what.......who am I kidding, most of you are hopeless whiny brats. I am glad too say not all of us are like this but the majority is and make us all look like....well you know what.
....And it's the mechanic's fault that management sits there and watches US guys do nothing, or play with our laptops. Even the best mechanics, and there's plenty @ ORD, sit around and DO NOTHING, when there's nothing to do. It's unfortunate for AA, but fortunate for US, that line mechanics are like firemen. Why don't you complain to your city council why firemen sit around and DO NOTHING....when there's no fires, and make as much, if not more than you do. When was the last time you seen firemen get concessionary contracts? Why not pay them per fire? I guess the only part I will agree is that we have a select few AMT's that lack credibility, integrity and professionalism. These few make ALL of us look bad. As far as "the flying public" knowing what goes on at the "Best Airline", and you can't honestly mean AA....well, they don't give a rat's ass about you or me, as long as their flight's on time. But, I will say this.....you're priceless to the "flying public" when there's a maintenance issue with their airplane!

<_< ------ Hey odie!------- Is it just us old Kansas City farmers? But in all my time here at the old O'haul base, both TWA, and AA, I don't think I've ever seen a AMT use his own laptop! I do believe this plane_mech is a plant! ------And as far as responsibility goes, I believe that if an AMT signs off one "airworthy item", he's earned his money for the night!

Yea and when management begins to cut heads because guys are spending 90% of their day on laptops the union is crying about [ dues ] manpower. There are good mechanics at ORD but it's the guys who cant t/s a 1 wire circuit who whine because they got a second job that want $40.00 an hour. It's pathetic. Management has no clue what mechanics do. We have a Central Division Managing Director who runs our station. Our Station Manager is so clueless and just does as he is told. Now we are hiring on 10 more supervisors and hiring no experience want to be's as mechanics. This is great. We piss away manpower with 4 10s so guys can get 2 more hours of sleep and we hire more people so we can do less work. If the managers who worked here were worked for a corporation that enforced accountability they would be unemployed. We should be a great company. Those words are not even in the vocabulary of the management or union of this company. So very sad. If the flying public knew we would be done.

You say UPS make more than you but UPS mechanics work the 8 or 10 hours they are scheduled, on airplanes not watching TV's or playing/doing business on their laptops. You are not overpaid if you actually did your job!!! To be able to provide housing, food and necessary items for my families surviaval I would give whatever it takes because in the end that is what is important. My personal gain of how many boats or cars or how big my home is contributes to nothing as long as I can take care of my family and do an honest job for whatever I work for!! If I dont like it I can always quit and go work as acontractor but my choice is to stay and do my job honestly for my paycheck. That is something our fathers and their fathers did before and it worked pretty well for them. You can defend yourself anyway you think is right but reality is most people do work at jobs, not just put in time, for the money they are paid.

Ok guys back to topic. A question and just a question who would be willing to stop working OT and maybe put their precious CS's and doulble's in jeopardy to show the company we are serious? Oh by the way 4/10 schedules do not take more manpower the manpower is there and can be utilized if it is managed correctly. Also UPS works 3/13's and they are very efficient.

Like Bob said, "Give them what they want and they will TAKE what they need."
Work safe and take the money, if they do away with CS's and doubles, oh well.
Don't you think our twu locals should be a little bit more engaged on what we should do?

"AA management pays me just enough not to quit and I do just enough work not to get fired from AA."

This attitude brought to you courtesy of 25 years @ AA.

If overtime stopped? Are you kidding? DFW cannot function without it and no question the company would run straight to courthouse for an injunction. One just has to look at the rate of OTS aircraft a day its staggering. Its a total mess with no leadership.Work it why should we? Gets us nothing in return... There is no incentive,no bonus and well if you count AIP as a bonus mine was 59 dollars after taxes,i guess you can say i got mine.....please its not worth working it.The only time I do work is for my satisfaction.I do enjoy working ac thats why i applied here 20 years ago..

4/10's doesn't take more people. Also, for me the sooner I can get my 40 in and be done, the better. As for new guys, as long as their willing to learn/work then give 'em a little slack... it was everyone's first day once.
