Anyone in the SAN area should watch the ABC affiliate news at 11:00 PM tonight on Channel 10 KGTB. They are doing a follow up story on outsourced aircraft maintenance.
Last year on May 26th Channel 10 News did a story on outsorcing maintenance after I informed them about foreign countries doing overhaul work on U.S. registered aircraft, such as China & Singapore. Well, it seems as if the U.S. Department of Transportation did an Audit of Safety Oversight of an Air Carrier Industry in Transition, FAA AV-2005-062. (This report can be accessed at http://www.oig.dot.gov/item.jsp?id=1729.) (I hope I got the link correct.) This report prooved everything I told the reporter a year ago to be true. Even the government was amazed at the depth outsourcing has reached.
Channel 10 News (SAN) did an unbiased story last year and I trust they will do so again this evening. The report does not name the airlines they audited but out of the 10 reviewed 5 were "legacy" and 5 were "low cost carriers". My point is that airlines do not care, the FAA is undermanned & underfunded and a proud profession is being attacked. I want the public to become aware of the state of aircraft maintenance in today's airline environment and for others who feel the same to take action. One voice will sound louder when it is joined with similar voices.
Going to www.10news.com after 11:00 PM Pacific Time you should be able to view their link to the story.
