Anyone in the SAN area should watch the ABC affiliate news at 11:00 PM tonight on Channel 10 KGTB. They are doing a follow up story on outsourced aircraft maintenance.
Last year on May 26th Channel 10 News did a story on outsorcing maintenance after I informed them about foreign countries doing overhaul work on U.S. registered aircraft, such as China & Singapore. Well, it seems as if the U.S. Department of Transportation did an Audit of Safety Oversight of an Air Carrier Industry in Transition, FAA AV-2005-062. (This report can be accessed at http://www.oig.dot.gov/item.jsp?id=1729.) (I hope I got the link correct.) This report prooved everything I told the reporter a year ago to be true. Even the government was amazed at the depth outsourcing has reached.
Channel 10 News (SAN) did an unbiased story last year and I trust they will do so again this evening. The report does not name the airlines they audited but out of the 10 reviewed 5 were "legacy" and 5 were "low cost carriers". My point is that airlines do not care, the FAA is undermanned & underfunded and a proud profession is being attacked. I want the public to become aware of the state of aircraft maintenance in today's airline environment and for others who feel the same to take action. One voice will sound louder when it is joined with similar voices.
Going to www.10news.com after 11:00 PM Pacific Time you should be able to view their link to the story.

It's not just outsourcing.

The lowering of real wages over the years has caused a demographic shift in the ranks. Anyone who has been here a while will notice that many people have been hired in recent decades that would not have been hired before. Poor English, no military experience, no experience period, checkered past, and so forth. Supes were told to pass mechs that never would have passed ten years earlier because, "They will probably hire someone worse." And for quite a while, we lost the many of the best of that lot to better-paying airlines. The miracle is, we still managed to hire and keep some really good wrenches.

.

I'm afraid it will take a few tragedies (God forbid) for anyone to take serious notice. Take 9/11 for example....the government knew the threats but "dismissed" them. 9/11 happens and the world is turned up side down. Now billions of dollars are being spent on homeland security. How many "faulty" airplanes will fall out of the sky due to half-assed job performance before someone takes notice??

That my friends is the question of the day...........

Tulsa and MCI is to us what China and Singapore is to you.

<_< ----- And what the hell do you mean by that??? Listen Bob! We have less than Three hundred AMTs here total, and the number is going down every week! We just had nineteen AMT's retire this week alone! We're working two wide body 767 "C" checks, and a line of Eagle Saabs that will being expanded to two lines here shortly! We've been told ALCOA is supposed to show up any day now with their 757 conversions, And I just heard we'll be getting four more Capital Air 767 Pylon Mods. Two of which we'll be doing along with "C"checks! And oh yes, let's not forget our boys at the terminal covering flights! Did I mention we had a "drop in" today? An MD80 chucked an engine out of STL! But we can handle that also! So far, no talk about recalls! Now, tell me again about MCI and China!!!! 😉

All that work for 20K less per year. No wonder they keep you guys employed. Keep up the good work.
You work harder so we dont have to 😀

I do believe you just made Bob's point. At pre-concessions wages you did 1/3 of the work you do now for much less. So basically you're doing 3 times as much work for less money, which allows for no recalls and gives AA that cost advantage over China and Singapore.

<_< ---- Time! You must be from Tulsa! There's one thing you have forgotten! 20K less for you, is still more than we were making for TWA! And if you'de get off your dead ass, maybe we could get reed of that Company Union and get that 20K back!!!

Start it, get t-town on board, and then come talk to the line and AFW. Right about now, we would take the "credit union" over this turd of a dues collection organization. 😛

???All that work????? Are you kidding me??? You get paid to perform 8 hours of work are you not??? Let me see...prior to working "harder", what an average day was like for an AMT....get to work, hit the clock....walk to work area (15-20 min, you went the long way)....take at least 30-45 minutes to set up your work area.....work 2 hours (if lucky)....take a 30min+++break, work another hour or so.....oh look time for an hour lunch (contractually only 30 min but we can do that), back to work area the long way again....work an hour or so.....oh boy I'm tired, another 30 min++++ break....almost time to clean up area, goody.....work another hour or so (or at least look busy)....well what do you know it's an hour before quitting time I guess I'll start winding it up for the next guy to take over.....15 minutes later....well it's time to clean up my mess (you were so "messy" it takes about 45 minutes)......time to clock out and go home (and once again you take the long way to the clock). Yep, you worked a good 8 hours and boy are you tired!!
(Go ahead try to deny that scenario. But you and I both know that's how it was.....easy!!!)

Give me a freakin' break. You're not accountable!! You don't want to be accountable. More work comes in and now you HAVE to really work and you'd thing they brought the slave drivers out.

WHINE, WHINE, WHINE........that's what you do best. It's sad when you start whining about having to do 8 hrs work you are being paid to do. If you don't like the the work, the pay, then quit and find something else. Oh no wait, can't do that, then you would have no one to blame but yourselves and we all know that will never happen.

WHAAAAA!!! 🙁 🙁 🙁 The TWU is making me work.....WHAAAAA!!!! Get a pair.............
