PHL-LHR

I checked in at a US Airways desk...boarded at a US Airways gate...the crew wore US Airways uniforms...
but, it is entirely possible that this was a United flight...they do have some kind of sharing system, don't they?
We definitely landed in Heathrow. I have never been to Gatwick.

So, this is really a matter of semantics.

Didn't US Airways have a partnership/marketing agreement/wet lease agreement with BA at one time?

The crew was NOT wearing Us Airways uniforms. I'm sure we all look alike but airlines do not interchange crewmembers. US Airways employees only work AAA flights. You were probably on a codeshare flight whereas Us Airways sells you the ticket but it is operated entirely by United Airlines.

Yes, and as I recall those flights were operated to/from London Gatwick from the US Airways hubs.

The USAirways/BA lasted up until May 1997, so we're hardly talking about the USAirways' era let alone 2002...

There have never been scheduled flights from PHL-LHR on US or UA, until two days ago. At that point in time, I don't believe that US even codeshared on any airlines' flights to LHR, though I could be wrong about this.

As for the loads, the westbound flights looks like they are sold out, or nearly sold out in the back for several days in a row starting later this week.

Sorry Holly. My reply was sarcastic, but in a fun spirited way. You absolutely did not fly USAirways, or a codeshare, to LHR in 2002. There would not have been US ground staff at PHL handling it either.

BA has been the sole PHL-LHR operator as long as the Bermuda II treaty has been in existence. Before then, US didn't even fly transatlantic. 🙂

TWA and AA flew PHL-LHR as well
TWA did, but I thought that the DOJ wouldn't let AA take it over with the STL and BWI runs when AA purchased TWA's Heathrow rights in 1991 IIRC. AA did get BOS, JFK and LAX. They had brought the Chicago rights in Dec of 1989 from TWA already.

AA flew PHL-LHR for a full year and then transfered the authority to DFW - which was their plan all along after gaining approval to acquire TWA.

Working LHR tomorrow and we only have about 90 on Y class. Full coming back.

Well with the exchange rate what it is i guess it should not be unusual for higher loads westbound initially, although they do have to head back at some point

Uh, not quite. About two years after the TWA deal, AA still managed to get authority for PHL-LGW, along with BNA-LGW and RDU-LGW. All three started on the same day, and within a year, both PHL and BNA were killed off.

DFW never had any LHR service... until today, that is.

Anyone have any information as to why the departure was over an hour late last night? Given the late time of this flight this one could get pretty ugly on late departures!

Nice Photos Ed...I wonder what was in these bags they gave out...worthless amenity kits or was it worth something this time 🙂
