What's new

PHL-LHR

Surprising? Envoy sucks. Why would you fly US when you can fly BA for the same price (or cheaper) and get outstanding service.
Or better yet, get a nice lie flat seat in UA's Business Class to IAD and then a PuddleJumper to PHL.

Well CO's BizFirst cabin on inaugural EWR-LHR was chock full of upgrades. Like I said this will take time. It's not like LHR is a new airport just getting service. It is very competitive and current travel patters may or may not change! It's not like it's a BOS-GCM.

Rumor has it that someone in Tempe "FORGOT" to order the dome lids for the meals so get ready to do some un wrapping in the aisles. Oh and did I mention that they "FORGOT" to order the skirts for the carts too? After AAAAALL that hullabalooo about skirts yet NOPE. I sure hope this isn't true. 🙄

Surprising? Envoy sucks. Why would you fly US when you can fly BA for the same price (or cheaper) and get outstanding service.
Two reasons:
1) The Lowest difference between US and BA round trip fares is $60 in Y and $1200 in Business. With advanced purchase, the difference in Envoy is $1700 (or more) less than BA.
2) Star Alliance members are able to connect to other Star Carriers (BMI, LH, etc.) at LHR T1 - BA is in T5. This will become even more important as all Star cariers move into T1.
As the US economy weakens, that fare disparity will possibly become a significant advantage to US.

There are a lot of PHL-LHR O&D passengers, and a lot of connectors from AA in PHL to BA through the OW alliance. I wouldn't think twice about flying BA instead of US, regardless of the price difference. They have lie flats on all their TA equipment and their service is outstanding.

BA is not going to be fully moved to T5 until 2009 sometime, btw. Not that it matters in this discussion. It's a slow transition, and even slower after last week's showstopping baggage meltdown that made the US PHL baggage meltdown of 2004 look like a tea party.

CO has an actual product that can compete with BA - especially out of their home turf, and they have a lot of very happy, satisfied FF's. They also have a very tight international upgrade policy, so how do you know that their BizFirst was "chock full of upgrades" as opposed to actual paying customers?

Oh, and sorry no pictures as there were too many people in suites.
That's why you have to get someone to pose for the picture and have the offending duct tape in the background, just over their shoulder. Then you zoom in later on the duct tape and crop the decoy out. That's how i take pictures of pax in funny outfits to laugh at in the breakroom later. I never get caught. I mean, if I actually did that. Which I don't. Ever....um...SWOOOSSHHHHHHH!! And to keep myself on topic, does anyone have pics of our gate in LHR?

TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On Saturday March, 29, US Airways (NYSE:LCC - News) launched its first ever service to London’s Heathrow Airport from its international gateway and hub in Philadelphia. US Airways is utilizing its flagship international aircraft on the new route, the Airbus A330, offering 29 Envoy and 259 economy seats.

The Philadelphia-Heathrow route is the airline’s seventh new trans-Atlantic route since 2006. With the new service, US Airways’ European destinations served from Philadelphia increase to 20.

US Airways President Scott Kirby said, “Given Heathrow’s importance as a European gateway as well as its close proximity to London for business travelers, we are extremely excited to bring this valuable service to the Philadelphia community. Heathrow joins an already impressive list of European destinations we already serve, and in the coming years, with 39 new widebody, long-haul aircraft set to join our fleet, we look forward to continuing our international expansion.â€

“I’d like to express our gratitude to Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and the staff at Philadelphia International Airport who all played vital roles in helping us prepare for this new service,†said C.A. Howlett, senior vice president, corporate affairs. “The quick responsiveness of the city to expedite various facility modifications needed for a successful launch reflects the mayor’s vision of establishing Philadelphia as a world class air transportation center.â€

First ever....?
I recall being a passenger on a flight from PHL - LHR in March, 2002.
These executives have fleeting memories.
According to public records, C.A. Howlett's total compensation from US Airways was over one million dollars in 2006!

USAirways(as well as the rest of the US airlines other than EA, PA, AA and UA) has never served LHR. Assuming you were on a USAirways flight, was it an alternate/emergency landing or were you just drunk and have a poor memory? 🙂

Your sarcastic reply is untrue. I was on a flight into LHR. I've been there hundreds of times...and do not drink.

You probably were, but it was a British airline. US never flew to LHR. (and neither did the other airlines, except United and American)

Not on US...enough said, lets move on

How are the loads on the first week of flts. US will be up against tough competition from the BA product

Here is tonights flight

Class Capacity Booked NRS
First 29 15 2
Coach 259 191 3

I checked in at a US Airways desk...boarded at a US Airways gate...the crew wore US Airways uniforms...
but, it is entirely possible that this was a United flight...they do have some kind of sharing system, don't they?
We definitely landed in Heathrow. I have never been to Gatwick.

So, this is really a matter of semantics.

USBDL...We should go ahead and nonrev on the flight if you aren't working tuesday night *winks*

I wish. 🙂

I'm leaving for training on Sunday. lol

Good time to nonrev to LHR, thats for sure.
