PHX Mishap

Here's the most recent press release from America West giving the details of the incident. Thankfully, nobody was seriously hurt and it sounds like the crew did a good job.

But I have a question about America West's staffing of this flight: given that the flight carried 154 passengers, shouldn't the total number of crew members have been six (two pilots in the cockpit and four Flight Attendants in the cabin) as opposed to the five that was announced? Don't FAA regs require four F/As when 151-200 passengers are aboard?

According to their website, A320's have 150 seats (12First/138Coach). The other four pax must have been lap-children, jump-seaters, or something else?

No surprise really.. As pointed out ...add two infants and two jumpseats and you get 154..No real mystery there.

Wow...packed to the gills on a midweek, late afternoon IAH-PHX flight! Hopefully HP is actually turning a profit this quarter. My sympathies to the three overworked FAs, even before the abrupt end to their flight!
