What's new

Pilots and NWA reach an agreement

And all along I thought the NWA pilots refused "overtime" due to stress and fatigue. At least that was the union line. I guess money is the new double-espresso.

Speaking of $$$, they're now bribing all of us to come to work...

Re: Summer Reliability Incentive Plan
Dear Colleague:
One of the hallmarks of Northwest Airlines has been our exceptional commitment
to operational excellence and consistently delivering a safe, reliable product to
our customers. As many of you have experienced first hand, we’ve struggled to
deliver on this commitment at various times this summer. While we have already
put in place a number of changes that will improve our performance in August,
I’m pleased to announce another program that will further enhance our ability to
achieve this important goal and allow us to begin the process of reestablishing
Northwest as the most reliable airline in the business!
For the period from Saturday, August 4th through Monday, September 3rd (Labor
Day), we will offer an incentive pay program designed to enhance operating
reliability to all contract employees worldwide. Eligible employees who meet an
attendance reliability standard during this time period will receive a pay premium
equal to 15 percent of all wages paid for time worked during the period -- up to a
maximum of $1000. The 15% premium pay is taxable income and will be paid
out along with your first regular paycheck in October.
The Summer Reliability Incentive Plan recognizes the hard work and
dedication that you’ve demonstrated and will reward you for your commitment in
the month to come. We need your extra efforts to run the best operating airline
in the business during the remaining peak summer travel season.
Specific details of the Summer Reliability Incentive Plan will be outlined in a
Q&A that will be posted on RADAR and ATLAS by the end of the week. If you
have any questions or would like additional information, please contact your
manager or Human Resources representative.
Thank you very much for your ongoing commitment to safety, operational
reliability and customer service excellence throughout this challenging summer.
Your dedication and perseverance continue to provide the foundation for the
future success of our airline!
Sincerely,
Doug Steenland

what are you going to do kev?? Take the so called bribe and show up and do your job and get a little extra or are you going to call in sick cause you are overworked?? and get nothing!!

by the way whats it like punching in the time clock everyday working for a company you can't stand

This tentative agreement between NWA and its pilots is a very welcome development. The opportunity to bring the airline up to full operating capacity and on a reliable schedule is now at hand.

As reported by TheStreet.com, Northwest CEO Doug Steenland, commenting on the agreement and on recent NW labor issues, tellingly noted that a priority now is to "devote the time and resources necessary to rebuild and repair some of the damage and some of the impact that created." The "damage" and "impact" he's speaking of is, of course, the aftermath of the company's recent restructuring and its effect on employee compensation, working conditions and morale. In a change of pace, Northwest seems to be taking a meaningful step in addressing its dysfunctional employee-management relationships. Steenland added that by doing so "one cannot say it's shareholder value only." What he seems to be saying is the company is looking to make its employees' well-being and concerns more of a priority, in spite of the demanding expectations of Wall Street. Investors, of course, don't like talk like this--growth and profit are their primary concerns--but they are not blind to the fact that any improvement in employee-management relations at Northwest is, from almost any perspective, beneficial.

The recent collaborative agreement between Northwest and its pilots augers well for improved employee-management relations throughout the company. Whether it is the beginning of long-lasting change remains to be seen, but it is a positive step in the right direction.

I plan to show up for work the same as I always do...wether or not there's $$$ attached doesn't change that. If I get sick, or have some other emergency, so be it; it wasn't money I was counting on anyway.

As for being "overworked," we're short everyday; that's like asking if I'm not coming to work because the sun is going to rise.

by the way whats it like punching in the time clock everyday working for a company you can't stand

It's not Northwest per se that I can't stand, it's the clowns running it.

Really, now. How do you provide a safe product with SCAB AMTs?

How soon will it be before the other unions on the property ask for improvements to their contracts?

I doubt that NW would even consider dealing with the other unions anyway...

Not soon enough, if you ask me.

I doubt that NW would even consider dealing with the other unions anyway...

Well, apparently, they've "been in talks" with the other unions on the property...what that means, I have no idea.

In all seriousness, why would they even bother entertaining open anyone's CBA? They'll just keep throwing bonus programs at the masses, and most will just keep ramblin' along.
