Pilots Have a T/A

ThirdSeatHero, You're not surprised about ALPA's Rollover, are you?
Were you guys hoping for a strike? I'm not sure I understand why you'd want NWA to liquidate and 35,000 people to lose their job. Help me understand this line of thinking.

Not really, I was just hoping that for once the issue of "Can't strike/Can Strike" would be settled.

The resolution of that question in favor of labor might curb the wholesale destruction of many aviation careers.

Oh yeah, for sure, we're ALL surprised! Really, the only thing I'm surprised at, is, the length of time it actually took to rollover.

They may have been then again they may not have been. but the bottome line is is that as long as the last holdout--ALPA--would strike a deal as was widely expected, mgmt will continue with their dirtly rotten crap and the filthy treatment of the employees will continue. A strike would have gotten rid of the scabs and the rich mgmt dudes.

Not unexpected.

They (as ‘we’ 😛 all are) are in the ‘race to the bottom’ from the beginning.

Hang on, it’s not over!

I must differ UAL TECH. It's exactly as expected. No one in the aviation industry really thought these pilots would stick it out, did you? They can't handle life to long out on the street. Heck, they called off picketing because the weather got below 36 degrees! These guys are not used to a difficult life. The thought of having to struggle scares the you-know-what out of them. They were starting to show some character there, but we all know down deep inside it's really just a mere smokescreen. The pilots don't have the substance the AMFA mechs are made of. Too bad. However, in regards to the race to bottom, I agree. The ride is not over, not by a longshot. We need to invest in some new seatbelts. It'll be worse than just a bumpy ride.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hey, I didn't do it!

Well, I guess I'm on an island in thinking that this is great news for NWA, its employees and its customers. I am certainly going to tip a few back tonight in celebration (or maybe relief is a better word).

The "race to the bottom" is over I believe. NWA dug as deep as it needed so they'd only have to do it once. I think this will be the new baseline for wages, and they will start to creep up within the next couple years.

dont be so sure it is over because USAIR did it to us three times in 2 yrs one of which a judge took care of for us and all 3 times with the IAM's Blessings

You are not alone Finman I too am glad this is about over with. I just wish the F/As could get it together. I can't believe they just reached a "tentative" agreement. This should bring that issue to a close soon though. I think I'll have a few myself, I don't have to worry about catching any bus. 🙂

For all you guys that were so certain the "other" unions would bring NWA to liquidation...Well, you know what you can do. "SOLIDARITY?" Yea they were solid all right. Solid rocks carrying everyone’s livelihoods straight to “the bottom of the barrel".

I guess you don't read much about geology. I guess you never read much about islands sinking or Corporations heading back into bankruptcy court two or three times. I guess you never heard of any companies going back on their word. Assuming doesn't get you anywhere in a court of law, just the facts.

wonderboy, how dare you. You do not know us at all. We did go on strike before and we voted 92% to do it again. I voted yes. I voted that way for everyone in aviation. You too I am sure. Not use to a difficult life? You do not know that for sure either. I was fatherless and pennyless and lived in the government projects for years and then moved up to a dump of a house trailer. I went many nights without eating and was laughed at by my school mates for wearing clothes with holes in them. Struggle, my friend you are talking to one that has struggled all my life. You should re-think your slanderous words. Character? It is obvious that you do not hold this quality due to your rude and hurtful words! No substance? Surely you jest? I will say that the NWA mechanic are some of the best in the industry and I never met one of them that was less than great! I appreciated their work! I appreciated them. As for your words of substance. You once again show how lacking in the Character department you are. Please do not make comments that show your stupidity! Just so you will know. I got to where I am on my own. I did struggle and I did survive. I did eat beans and went without. I did make it to where I am along with many others because of what we are made of. I was handed nothing! I would and still may go on strike for the entire aviation industry. We at NWA are all sick of this and that is why we voted to go on strike. Most of the guys I know are selling their homes.....if they own them and are indeed hurting. (Furloughed Guys) I will end with this......Wonderboy, I wish you peace, joy and happiness. I hope you find these things so that you can stop slandering your brothers in this industry.

You may indeed be right, NWA may have gotton all they need. With that said, I'm quite sure my former colleagues at UAL thought their first pass through the 1113 process was their last as well. History shows it didn't quite play out the way they'd hoped.

Whats going to be interesting to see is how NWA handles the pension issue. Having watched this play out before at UAL, I have a sneaking suspicion that NWA with signed T/As in hand turns around and dumps the pensions.

We'll see

***disclaimer***

I haven't seen the/any particulars of the pilots T/A which may contain language to secure their pensions.
