PIT Tour

Even THAT airport back in the day was a hell of a sight nicer and cleaner than PHILLY is presently.

Take a close look at how many carry-on bags everyone is carrying and compare that to today. Most people had only one bag not much larger than a duffle bag. NO ROLLERBOARDS....ah the good old days.

This should have been in the 'Do You Remember' thread. I was an airline brat growing up and loved roaming that airport. There were so many stairways to nowhere you could go and hang out away from the crowds & enjoy views of the field. I loved boarding through the rotunda gates when you had to walk up the ramp to get to the jetway.

New PIT is a lot nicer of an airport, but old PIT was a classic!

I loved going up the stairs and sitting on the wall at the window on the corner where British Airways parked. What a different time huh?

My interviews with the company were in that airport. I know everyone hated it, but I liked 32-R a lot. The bus ride was always a good way to look at aircraft from a different vantage point than I was accustomed to at the time.

yep, back when US Air was flying DC-9s and the overhead bins were about the size of a toaster oven.

Wow does this bring back memories. I spent a lot of time in that airport from Sept 1987 until they closed for the new terminal.

Hotel in the center rotunda, observation deck, Eastern, PanAm, wrapped gifts, family members going to the gate, NO CELL PHONES, pilots with hats, someone having the freedom to walk around the airport with a large videotape recorder (1985) without being treated as a possible terrorist. Seems a bit quaint now.

What is up with that other video......"The end of Pit Airport"? Is that person on serious drugs?....
