So, I get home and have this message on my answering machine:

"This is _______ from the Chief Pilots' office. We're short pilots this month and would really appreciate if you could fly extra time this month. Thanks."

For crying out loud! Short pilots?? Well, duh, bring em' back from furlough you dumb *$$es. Sorry, I am not a sky whore, never have been, never will be. Shame on those that are though... And, shame on the company for (again) very poor planning.

Let me get this right.....they can have everyone fly 95 hours per month (17 + days away from home) and they still have a staffing problem? 1879 pilots on furlough... +/- 25 pilots have quit or retired every month over the past three years...not one recall. Geesh

Apparently so. And, what are they going to do when people like me leave for other aviation jobs this year? I'd like to see my position filled by a furloughee not taken over by greedy sky whores.

If this wasnt so sad it would be comical. Unfortunately, there will be company loving pilots who can't wait to assist by coming to the rescue to the benefit of their own wallets. USA320Pilot for one. But the morally correct answer is NO. It time to bring back pilots, NOW. If they're short during a winter month, I can only imagine the problems the summer will bring. No pilots will return until flights are cancelled regularly. We proved that here at UAL.

Its time for Captain Pollock to lead, take the bull by the horns, publically call for recalls and appeal to his flock to not listen to the siren's song.

I've got a sick feeling that in the long run the real intention is to park planes; hence, no recalls. Given all the crap going on at this company I am truly amazed it continues to operate. It defies all logic.

USA320 wants to work 150 hours a month.. He loves to make sure people lose their jobs to his benefit..

Every pilot at US Airways should refuse to work beyond their schedule.. But people like USA320 line up like lap dogs.. Yeah boss, I will work, lay someone else off boss, yeah boss.. Lap lap lap.

Read all of his posts.. Every one is pro company and anti employee.. Pay his union dues every month and talks highly about being a union member but can't wait to see people lose their jobs.. Loves it as a matter of fact.. Read his posts..

Welcome to our world. They call me on my INV-OFF days and beg me to work at least 3 times a month. They have raised our flight obligation by 5 hours for everyone and THEY STILL are short!
I am so sick of "Hi, this is scheduling....can you please bail us out of our poor planning and lack of crews?" Get bent!
If they had their way I would fly 31 days a month and sleep on the aircraft. I bet they could even install little showers downstairs. They will try and bribe you with everything under the sun. i.e....days off back...space positive to base (bumping off paying passengers) and anything else they can lure you to work with. Please, no more for me. I get 10 days OFF a month because I am on a high option already. I am at there beckon call 20 days a month and that's enough. I do have a life outside this place. It's hard enough to make plans as it is but no...they have no shame in constantly begging us to bail them out.
Like a puppy dog during potty training. Sometimes you have to rub their little nose in it to let them know what they did wrong.
Who is in charge of the staffing models? Is the word RECALL in there vocabulary?
I would tell em to stuff it....they drain over half the life out of me as it is.

justaumechanic, there are two kinds of pilots at this company:

1. Those that have had it "good" from day one and will do anything and give up everything (to the detriment of many pilots) to hold on to the only flying job they'll ever have.

2. Those that are sick of the whole damn thing and are planning accordingly to get the f out.

You can guess what number you know who is.

USAirBoyA330, crew sched always calls the F/As up. Old lady was an FA and they did this to her all the time. Thank god for indenta-ring and caller ID...Don't pick up phone on off days!! Still, it's one thing for crew sched to call its an entirely different animal when the chief pilot's office calls. For F/As this is the equivilent of your supervisor calling.

Geez...can they reach the rudder pedals? :mf_boff:

Sorry...couldn't resist. I'll stop now.

sadly, nothing has changed.

still waiting for a clear, concise signal that someone is actually RUNNING THE AIRLINE. this is yet another indication of contined failures of managment practices.

SHOW ME THE MANAGEMENT JERRY (not glass but from the movie ).

broad over view
1. take care of your employees FIRST
2. the Employees will then take care of your CUSTOMERS
3. your customers will then take care of your SHAREHOLDERS.

get it?

You know what.. I apologize to any pilot that treats his fellow employee's with respect and understanding. Sometimes my posts rope in all the ALPA people and thats a mistake.. You could say my post's are a bit acidic and I have my reasons for that..

Pilots like USA320 make the rest of you look bad.. Thats unfortunate. Bottom line is your all in it together yet some think only of themselves at the expense of others. That is USA320.

I wonder what he will do the day his job ends.. Will he post on here saying how much management did and it was the rotten RC 4 or the IAM or the AFA that caused him to lose his job.. I wonder..

USA320 is a company stooge.. He would sacrafice everyone in the company so he can say "I'm a pilot".. All you need to do is read his posts.

And to stay on post I agree with the poster that said "Don't answer the phone on your days off".. Simple as that.. Some people cry and whine that they call but in reality they love to be called so they can whine..

I thought they said clear skys ahead?

Looks like the fun has begun. If you fly a 57, get your a** to PHL and get that bird down here! 😛 😉 Damn, now I'm going to have to work on rerouting AGAIN tonight (or better yet, they're going to PHL anyway to make a later conx because everything else is FULL!)

Soooo someone correct me if I'm wrong, here.

If you're short on pilots and flight attendants during a month which has only 28 days, how much worse will things be next month with there being 31 days -- or over 10% more flying to be done? Or are the bids and schedules not done on a calendar month basis?
