You have a very curious and negative way af making your point
Don't compare truck engines with car engines and also throw in the fuel costs to compare apples with apples.

From today's Toronto Star. Its unfortunate that the web version doesn't have the same spreedsheet as the printed version with the evolution from 1995 to 2004
Seing it just reveal a trend that is similar to the world trend toward smaller more efficient engines.

Domestic car sales continue to stall

So is that why the Japanese economy is soaring and the North American auto and steel industry is faultering?

Or is it because they can dump their product here quite easily?

To all those who drive cheap imports...my North American made bumper is looking right into your back window, and I'm coming fast...move over or become my new license plate.....

I hear we are going to hit close to a $1.42 a Litre by the
>>summer.
>> > > Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some
>>intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good
>>idea:
>>
>>This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the don't buy gas on a certain day
>>campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies
>> just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to
>>hurt ourselves
>>by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than
>>it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has
>>come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join
>>with us!
>>By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $.80 a
>>litre is super cheap. Me too! It is currently .78 to .89 depending
>>on what day it is, for regular unleaded gas in Montreal, Qc. We
>>all know that we're being screwed by the oil companies. Does
>>everyone remember how they drove up the prices way past a dollar
>>and got the gas prices to
>>where they wanted them, claiming there was a shortage of oil.
>>Well, there isn't any shortage now, and the oil is more abundant
>>than it
>>was 35 years ago when the price of a litre of gas was 29 cents!!!
>>Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us
>> to think that the cost of a litre of gas is CHEAP at
>>$0.78-$0.85, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that
>>BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of
>>gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.
>>The only way we are going
>>to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the
>>pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT
>>hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we cant
>>just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if
>>we all act together to force a price war. Heres the idea: For the
>>rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY
>>gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), PETRO
>>CANADA, SHELL.
>>If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce
>>their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies
>>will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach
>>literally
>>millions
>>of PETRO CANADA and SHELL buyers. Its really simple to do!! Now,
>>don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll
>>explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
>>I am sending this note to at least thirty people. If each of you
>>send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send
>>it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the
>>time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will
>>have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million
>>get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million
>>people will have been contacted! If
>>it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED
>>MILLION
>>PEOPLE!!!
>>Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all (If
>>you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have
>>to do is send this to 10 people... Well, lets face it, you just
>>aren't a Mathematician. (But I am. so trust me on this one.)
>> How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out
>>to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION
>>people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!
>>I'll bet you didn't
>>think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together
>>we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass
>>this
>>message on.
>>PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $0.64 OR LESS
>>RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK!!!!!!!
>>PLEASE take a few minutes and pass this on to everyone you know!!
>>If you can't e-mail it to at least ten people, please print out a
>>bunch of copies and hand it out to your family and friends!!

oh great, with 300 million+ computers and photocopiers going into overdrive there's going to be a shortage of electricity again, which means another mass blackout, and higher prices since electricity is in short supply.

I suppose they could fire up all those coal powered electrical stations and save us, but then again, the environment suffers...

I think we should all attach small generators to the wheels of our huge SUV's (the small piddly imports can't power anything bigger than a squirrel cage) and generate our own power to be stored in batteries strategically placed in the huge cargo areas that SUV's also have. Once you get home after a day of burning up the plentiful supply of high octane fuel, you can plug your house into your multi use SUV and voila...lights for the evening.

The biggest percentage of cars from "Japanese makers" so to speek that are sold in Canada are manufactured in Canada.

Some models are exclusively for the NA Market only and also built in Canada !!!

I will post some links for you to see that.

Also lets see the concept of "Japanese" car:

NISSAN - Owned and controlled by RENAULT (France)
MITSUBISHI - Owned and controlled by DAIMLER CHRYSLER (Germany)
MAZDA - Owned and controlled by FORD (US)
SUBARU - Owned and controlled by GENERAL MOTORS (US)
SUZUKI - Owned and controlled by GENERAL MOTORS (US)
DAEWOO - Subsidiary of SUZUKI (US)

After this as "Japanese" we are left with:

HONDA
TOYOTA and its subsidiary DAIHATSU

Not much EH ?

Now lets see the concept of "American" car:

GENERAL MOTORS has:

Chevrolet (US)
Oldsmobile (US)
Buick (US)
Pontiac (US)
Cadillac (US)
Saturn (US)
GMC (US)
Opel (Germany)
Vauxhall (UK)
Fiat Auto (Italy) - 20% - consists of Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo
Saab (Sweden) - 50%
Holden (Australia)
Isuzu (Japan) - 49%
Suzuki (Japan) - 20%
Subaru (Japan) - 24.2%
Daewoo (Korea) - 42%
Delphi (US) - component supplier

FORD has:

Ford (US)
Mercury (US)
Lincoln (US)
Ford (Europe)
Aston Martin (UK)
Jaguar (UK)
Volvo (Sweden)
Land Rover (UK)
Ford (Australia)
Mazda (Japan) - 33.3%
Kia (Korea) - 9.4%
Cosworth Racing (UK) - motor racing consultancy and tuner

DAIMLER CHRYSLER has:

Mercedes-Benz (Germany)
Chrysler (US)
Dodge (US)
Plymouth (US)
Jeep (US)
Mitsubishi (Japan) - 34%
Hyundai (Korea) - 10%
Daimler-Benz (Germany) - truck
Detroit Diesel (USA) - engine maker
MCC (Micro Car Corporation) (France)
AMG (Germany) - tuner

Dificult to have a "nationality" for cars nowadays eh ? Curious isn't it ?

This is as of 2000. The big three have been increasing its share of the "other" manufacturers ever since.

The only European car maker that resisted this wave is the last family owned car manufacturer BMW of Germany.
About Porshe I do not know its present shareholder's status.

It looks like we have your vote to keep the price of gas and electricity to the highest possible level that us poorly pay consumers can sustain.

Baldeagle;

Are you HERE or THERE, cause if you are HERE why are you promoting, and thus siding with paying more taxes for fuel? So you could fund the betterment of the government and thus be able to institute laws to lower the fuel consumtion of new vehicles.

THERE IS NO GOOD TO TAXATION!!!!

The government must take this action to the automanufactures themselves.

We can argue this til the cows come home, I get your point, try to understand ours.

PS how are the Honda engines doing in the Formula 1 races?

In fact I am everywhere. When I was born the World was a huge place. It has been shrinking ever since and today is just a big village

Nope. As you see there are a lot of people that just find it better to by those huge SUV for whatever reason and take the future oil supplies for granted.
The only way to redress this situation is by discouraging this type of thinking and since we live in democracies a different behaviour can't be imposed. The only way to "discourage" it is by taxation as it was done with great success in Europe.

OF COURSE everybody knows that Canada alone can't do anything because it would damage the economy and put some jobs at risk. Anything in this field must be joint action by the 3 NAFTA members. Thats one of the costs of an open economy.

We can argue this til the cows come home, I get your point, try to understand ours.

But I do understand your position.
In fact its not even difficult because it is the same everywhere in the World. People want to have a good way of life, some savings in the bank, everything they need as cheap as possible and not to worry about what will happen in the future (i.e. take the future for granted too). Nothing new here.
However when someone know better and is dealing with some finite resource that, so far, can't be replaced, a more responsible aproach must be fostered somehow.

PS how are the Honda engines doing in the Formula 1 races?

Honda engines dominated F1 for six years but I don't know what they are doing now. Just don't keep track of those details <_<

Stealthray....

You say 'poorly pay consumer'.... does that mean you're cheap, or poorly paid?

Either way, you need to make a change for yourself. Maybe a new higher paying job so you can afford a gas guzzling SUV, or a new disregard for personal wealth. I'm spending everything I can, for a few reasons, one is to make sure the banks of canada take a big hit when I die, and to also ensure that nobody else profits from my hard work. MINE MINE MINE!!!!😀

And markets such as the US, the world's biggest oil importer, are proving far more thirsty than analysts predicted, especially as the peak summer driving season gets into gear.

The latest weekly figures show US petrol stocks fell by at least 1.5 million barrels in the last seven days, the American Petroleum Institute said. The figures will add to pressure for prices to rise.

😳 BBC NEWS - 2004 May 12 - Oil supply cannot match demand

😳 BBC NEWS - 2004 May 12 Oil fuels record US trade deficit

AAHHH those SUV's :blur: :cop:

Did you read the "technical hitch" where it states that this demand in nowhere near caused by added consumption, it is caused by large companies and countries stocking up. Why? so they can screw the consumer for the summer, yippee.

Was a little scared dare a minute cha know. Almost had to park the astar and no more fishin trips. Phew,, close one.

Oh and Honda is no. 1 and powers the BAR racing team. Inginuity and getting the most power out a cc is not cornered by the euro market.

Skullcap ,don't forget Honda also gives a complete overhaul to the BAR engine after every race weekend.

:elvis: :elvis:  :elvis: :elvis:

Would really appreciate if posters would stop the yyy thing not everybody has a code book.

BTW it dropped to 87.9 here.
