In October 2002, Allegheny Airlines pilots agreed to give up some pay and health benefits in exchange for a shot at regional jet jobs later on.

What they are getting from parent US Airways, however, is Allegheny's disappearance through merger into sister express carrier Piedmont Airlines -- and no apparent shot at flying US Airways regional jets, said a union chief Wednesday.

Jim,

It seems the company wants to empty out AL.

Any idea what they want to refill it with?

I have the feeling it's not gonna be good.

diogenes,

Nary a clue. Could be anything from just reducing duplication by combining the two carriers to packaging for a sale to freeing up the operating certificate to use for something else - and any other things you can come up with.

nope

alpa forced this on alg. their are some shady dealings going on at alpa..

I cant believe that the sold alg down the river.

lets see what happens when the merger is finally complete.

2ndtier,

I agree that the heavy-handed tactics of national were uncalled for. For the life of me I can see no reason unless they were convinced the company would transfer the assets without the employees - the ultimatum trick so belove by management.
