At some point, everyone from HP will need to be re-badged. There is probably going to be a increase in the "lost badge" replacement fee, as there will probably be a rash of "lost badges". Save some money and scan your badge with your computer, or go to FedEx-Kinkos and use the color copier. It won't cost you anymore than $3.00. I predict that the replacement cost may rise to $100

I think we should all get new badges and employee numbers. That way there is no question about who you started with or when. Most people at the old US can tell by the numbers if you are a PI person or US person, even the Shuttle people can be picked out by their employee number. Oh and don't forget the crazy eights(myself being in that group).

a few of us have stated that very concern to merger@americawest.com and the response was that they are giving that very serious consideration. I used the example of NWA putting a Zero in front of the Republic employee numbers. NWA employees could instantly see who was from where without talking to you. All you had to see was a crew list, or shift roster.

I have a color copy of my original HP badge.
Its an antique style laminated thing.
But I thought it was a cute pix. Of course I was 21 and had fluffy 80's hair.
I couldn't care less about my current ID. They can have it.

From what I understand, at WN, the Morris pilots have ID #s that are different, so they are recognizable as "step children".

I figured we'd all get new #s, but what do I know?
Just give me a paycheck.

I remember those Polaroid badges! If they got wet, they soaked up the water and were like a little pillow!

I know that when UA & US were going to merge that this topic was addressed. From what I recall, UA was going to give everyone a new Emp #. The reason for this was so that nobody could be identified by what Company they were with prior to the Merger. I know from past experience that certain stations gave preferential treatment to Non-revs based and what their company background was.

This kind of thing can be a real problem with morale and building a cohesive team. They should even give thought to assigning numbers randomly rather than in sequence. At JetBlue, employee numbers are random 5 digit numbers, and that's the way it's been since the beginning. The DO was formerly at Continental and he remembered the problems with discrimination and outright spite associated with different numbering systems (particularly the CAL 1983 strike) and didn't want to build in an us/them issue right from the start.

When US started a large hiring phase for f/a in the mid-90's the employee numbers started in eight. It has been said (rumor) that US had hired a outside company to create a hiring profile.

Many stories have made the rounds about the first groups of eights. One in particular is about a f/a who didn't show for the van in PHX after a long layover. The Captain call her room and no one answered. After looking around for her the crew found her laying out by the pool. She told them that she was taking one of her personal days.

As funny as the stories are, it became the norm that a f/a with a employee number starting in eight was considered an airhead. It's not as bad as it use to be, but still a pain in the rear.
