What's new

Recession? What Recession?

You obviously have no clue what the election of Obama means to a great many people in this country. If they want to throw him a party that is their right to do so. The party is more for the people than for Obama.

When we elect a female to the office it will be another huge party as well.

I'm not interested in throwing a party for Barack Obama, yet as a taxpayer I'm expected to pay for it?

Just like I didn't want to pay for one when Bush was inaugurated, but I was expected to pay...

...And neither of us is paying for the "party" per se... What we're footing the bill for is security of the president-elect, which we pay for day in/day out any way.

I don't mind paying for the inauguration of any of our presidents. We have a democracy so let's celebrate it. I do have a beef with those who mind paying for the presidents they don't care for i.e Bush. Stop the double standard............

Seatacus--

If your comment was addressed to me, you misinterpreted what I was trying to get across.

Maybe I wasn't clear; my intent was to say what you did (that we pay either way, regardless of candidate).

The inauguration is for the 1.4 million plus people who showed up to be part of this day.

It wasn't addressed to you. It was just a comment.

Try stepping back and looking at the forest. This election and this inauguration is about fare more than you seem to realize. 1.4 million people plus all the people who voted for him want to see Obama treated like a President for one day. They want to see the glitz and the glamor for Obama. If you cannot understand that then I feel sorry for you. Look t the faces of the people on the TV. Look at the emotion and the tears. Yea I know you think they got duped. Maybe they did... time will tell but they helped break a barrier that has been in place for over 200 years. Whether or not he will be a good POTUS or not is irrelevant to what happened today.

They dont claim to unbiased like media matters darlin.

Speaking of that site I wonder why thye don't bother to mention Lincoln's opposition to the Mexican-American War. Or why they don't bother to back up some of their claims? Or for that matter why don't you?

During Obama’s inauguration speech he made these comments:

“We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished.â€￾

In other words . . . the fundamentals of our economy are strong.

If my memory serves me correct, this was the exact point that John McCain was pilloried for making during the campaign. Senator McCain was mocked for two weeks straight for saying the same thing, called out of touch, senile, and stupid.

Not sure how you got from A to B but what ever floats your boat.

Nice try boy . .

When the title of this thread is “Recession? What recession?â€￾ then you actively hijack the thread by engaging in a conversation about the size of the inauguration crowd, I think the more appropriate question should be: How did YOU get from A to B?

Most of the inauguration was sponsored by fat cats. Security is paid for by the Fed.

Your post had nothing to do with that. Your post implied that Obama said the same thing that McCain said. I interpret Obama statement to mean the 'potential' and 'ability' are still there. The economy is in the tank. Obama has said as much several times.

Most of the inauguration was sponsored by fat cats.

Are these the same “fat catsâ€￾ that are about to have their taxes raised? What incentive persuaded these “fat catsâ€￾ to finance inauguration festivities?

Wouldn’t it have been far more beneficial, for the greater good of the country, to use that money to help stimulate the economy? Surely Obama would have admired their efforts and understood the sacrifice he would have to make in downsizing this “historicâ€￾ celebration.

Because you’re thick you failed to understand my post. In 08 September McCain recognized the economic situation for what it was/is . . . fundamentally sound, in trouble but fundamentally sound. Was McCain out of touch, senile and stupid as Democrats and the Obama camp suggested? If so, Obama must also wear the same crown.

I interpret Obama McCain statement to mean the 'potential' and 'ability' are still there. There, see how it works?
