Has anyone paid the daily fee($50.00) in the Red Carpet Room lately? Just wondering if you thought it was a value? As a retired UAL employee it seems a tad steep. Oh well, I guess I should have paid for the lifetime membership 30 years ago, that was a deal!
Having worked the RCC in the past, I can tell you that most of the folks who plunk down the $50 are paying with their employer's credit card, or are putting it on their expense report and getting reimbursed.
Here's what you get: A nicer place to sit and wait for your flight. Coffee, teas, soft drinks, juices and some snack items such as, mini bagels, Walker's shortbread cookies, little cheeses, yogurts, some fruits, some little cakes in plastic wrappers, chips, etc. Very light foods--nothing to fill you up. Also, there are free newspapers, like the Wall Street Journal, USA Today and possibly the local paper. A good selection of magazines. There is usually a wireless connection for your PC if you want to hook up to the Internet. There is a bar if you want cocktails, but you have to pay for that (and leave the bartender a tip). There is usually a conference room if you need to have a meeting. Many RCC's have a computer with a printer and some quiet-area desks to work on, if you need that. There is usually a separate TV area. And, if you are experiencing IRROPS, the staff is usually, though not always, senior agents and you can get better service with changes and reaccomodations (not to mention shorter lines). In some of the smaller airports, they will even call the gate for you and have the gate call the club when they are ready to board you, so you dont have to spend alot of time in the gate area.
It's really geared for business travelers or those who spend alot of time at airports. But I agree with the other post: If you are going to be stuck for a long time, it might be worth it.
Hope this helps you decide!
