Report: NWA enlists bankers to bid on Delta

I'm just guessing that NW has hired this group to avoid being somewhat blindsided like DL was. While US/HP had approached DL privately, I think Jerry & team we somewhat stunned by the public overture.

By hiring this firm to focus on this, it leaves NW staff to continue to focus on the CH11 process. If a proposal does occur involving NW, they should be able to quickly determine if the offer has merit or whether they should fight it or seek out another option (i.e. AA come with an offer they don't like, they know to go to CO with a deal...obviously this is simplifying the scenario).

luv2fly's quotes are in the multiple parenthesis as he half quoted.

(((((((((((What happened to Keep Delta My Delta? )))))))))) A merger of ANY kind would prove that the outspoken Delta ONLY backers are nothing more than hypocrites.

(((((((((((If you think your biggest nightmare was US Airways,)))))))))))))) may I introduce you to the pits of hell...aka Northwest Airlines. Good luck, suckas!!

Thanks! You have proven me correct. The Delta folks and their "supporters" have shown their true colors.

luv2fly, only a worm would quote part of a sentence as you did. Where the hell do you get off? AND what IS your beef with US Airways? For the past few weeks , your "loyal" employees, customers, and hometown have stopped at nothing of painting a piss poor picture of the airline I am as proud to work for as you are yours. From DAY 1 this has gone on with each and every person crying KEEP DELTA MY DELTA. Thats means NO intruders, NO merger, and NO buyout!! Nowhere was there an ANYBODY BUT US AIRWAYS!! DELTA employees made it clear that they want to be a stand a lone carrier and all of a sudden...oh, we meant anyone but the EVIL US Airways. What a bunch of two faced hypocrites. You people are full of [photo deleted]View attachment 5412

Why does this have to be personal with you, LCC??

Putting aside Parker's rosed colored glasses for a minute, any merger will be painful for everyone. Forget the mythical synergies...even if half of them are true, it will still be painful.

Delta emloyees realize that US Airways adds nothing of value to our operation. Nothing personal, just business.

Delta on the other hand adds huge value to US Airways in the form of world leading access to Europe and strong presence in Central/South America. That's why this board is full of US Airways folks cheering this thing forward....it's also why Delta people are against it.

Having said that, there are potential mergers out there for both carriers that would make sense. There are carriers out there who need your East Coast presence and shuttle operation. They would offer you more international exposure...including the all-important Asia markets. You would complement each other and be stronger in the future.

Delta needs Asia...there are combinations out there that make sense for that as well. Combinations where our merger partner actually enhances our network and makes us stronger in the future.

These may be good reasons to suffer through a merger....combining USAirways and Delta (for the Delta side) provides no good reason, IMO.

Abe

By the way, the creditors and Wall Street will see this too...in the very near future. And wait till Jerry's deal comes to light in the next few weeks. His plan, along with other potential deals, will knock Parker's plan off the table for good...

We have some serious anger management issues going on here don't we?
LCC, it is doubtful I was trying to hide your intial full remark as it is readily viewable by all and precedes my reply. Subtracting the latter half was accomplished in haste and has no bearing on my reply. For your enlightenment I have reinstated your response in my post.
It does nothing to change the intention of my post.
IMO, DL should remain a stand alone carrier. Barring that possibility, a DL/US merger makes no sense when compared to other possibilities.
If is painfully obvious you take DL's response as a personal attack on yourself in light of how you posted that the DL employees hate you.
I quote you "$8 BILLION for lots of widebodies, a few flights to Asia and 50, 000 employees that hate you."
Get over it, or get some help.

One could also interpret the article to mean that NW is looking at opportunities to be acquired, rather than acquiring another company.

I think you are correct!

Northwest's contract with Evercore would give the firm an upfront fee of $275,000, plus $75,000 per month and $3 million should Northwest emerge from bankruptcy. Northwest would pay an additional $2 million if they are acquired or merged with another airline. Based upon the contract, I would assume that they are positioning to be purchased... not to purchase.

But stranger things have happened.

Probably because no one asked your boy wonder CEO to stick his nose in with an offer while they were navigating the chapter 11 process.

Then after being rebuffed he goes public with it? What kind of reaction did you expect?

Parker's a moron.

DAL's in bankruptcy "LGA"...open game at that point!! Such a "well" run airline should have NEVER gone bankrupt and let themselves ripe on the vine! At this point is all about the creditors and getting there money and not what the employees want. Funny how the pilot group is "bonding" with management now when a mere few months ago they were marching on TV against management about paycuts with threats of shutting down the airline. Amazing!!

Not really. It's about the lesser of two evils.
Parker's plan would most likely result layoffs for the DL employee group. A trend that has been reversed as of late.
All of DL's pilots for example, will be recalled within a year. In fact, DL will most likely be hiring pilots within a year. In addition, DL just announced a large number of flight attendant and mechanic recalls.
I think what most of it boils down to is job security, and most at DL are not believing Parker can keep his promise of no layoffs.

"Luv"...you should have been a politian, you tapped danced around the thing about the pilot group marching in line and shutting down "Their Delta" and went into a rant about call backs! This is the same pilot group now looking foolish going to DCA and making a seen at the OLD US Airways HQ...I've seen many mergers already in the airline industry and many BIGGER deals then this in other industries, oil..banking and NOT once did I see employees act like the ones at DAL...it's only a corporation folks...get over it and let the ego down!!!

For the life of it I HOPE we DON'T merge...I'm about over the DAL crap already. You guys can stay in you own little Wally World" you all are programmed to live in.

UAL...please do you thing...

This should take "Luv" about three minutes to counter!!!

Parker might be a moron but he is good at kicking SWA around. His plan is one that works and if SWA did not have fuel hedging they would be losing money.

Operating Cost per ASM for US as of 9/30/06 11.40
Operating Cost per ASM for US Excluding fuel 7.26
Yield per RPM (cents) 12.86

Operating Cost per ASM for WN as of 9/30/06 8.75
Operating Cost per ASM for WN Excluding fuel 6.38
Yield per RPM (cents) 12.71

US is not doing bad at all but I would not say they are "kicking SWA around".

How is what I said about recalls a rant? Is simply a fact. Problems with reality again?

Did you even bother to read my post? The only ego here is yours. This has everything to do with job security and nothing to do with your insecurity and inferiority complex.

For the life of it I HOPE we DON'T merge

Good, then we are in agreement.

You mean reality?

Probably took me more like 15. You US guys are so demanding.

You wouldnt happen to have any facts to support that statement would you?

Kicking around? No. Holding their ground? Yes. Unfornuately for those that work there, Parker's plan revolves around having the lowest compensated mainline employees in the industry.
