I have done a reservation online with united airlines but whenever i try to look up the reservation it kept on saying, ERROR ! I booked through tripadvisor. So please any other ways in which i could get confirmation about my reservation.

Exactly!
When you book through a 3rd party, they are responsible, not 'the company'.
That goes with almost 'any' third party vendors.
