I am seriously thinking about retiring from USairways, and was wondering whom do I contact about it, and to see if I am eligible to do so or not. I am nearing 53 years old and have over 17 1/2 years of service time. I am furloughed from Cle
ramp in May in 2005, and as much I would like to hit the 20 year mark, the body is telling me to find something else.
Any tips, hints, and guidance in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Carl

I would try to contact both your Human Resource department, and also the union. Both should be able to supply info about eligibility, reduced pension (if any), or any other rules/clauses/procedures.

Enjoy!!!

I am not expecting all that much, but something is better than nothing.

At 55 y/o if your pension was taken over by PGBC then you can do the HCTC. Essentially you'll pay 35% of the insurance prem and 65% is under the HCTC: http://www.pbgc.gov/workers-retirees/benef.../page13178.html
Good luck to you!

Thanks for the info. When PBGC took over the DCRP, I bailed out and sent my $$ to a Fidelity Rollover IRA. (Am getting a much better rate of return, that, and I really didnt like the solvency of the PBGC.

call the union hall in phl or bos
to see if they are neg the jobs back in the 26 cities
they contracted out. The transition talks have began
and they should be fighting for the cities back.

You mst be refering to your 401K plan. The defined pension plan at U is not something that an employee can "cash in" or "roll over". You do have pension credits and they are at the PBGC. You will need to contact the PBGC to request an estimate. If you have a speicific date of retirement, you need to let the PBGC know so they can be "timely" with the amount you are eligible for. Keep in mind, the pension plans for IAM and AFA were terminated by the BK judge on Jan. 10, 2005. That year, you will have received no credit, along with 2006.

If you have 17.5 years at U, your PBGC calculations as "years of service" will be approx. 15.5 of service credits.
